'Art Of The Deal' Author Says Donald Trump Has A Personality Disorder.
The man who co-wrote President Donald Trump's signature memoir is once again railing against the president. This time it's about his mental state. Tony Schwartz, the co-author of Trump's 1987 "The Art of the Deal," had strong opinions about the man he once helped to portray as a flourishing real estate mogul in an interview Thursday with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
"Is Trump crazy like a fox or is he just crazy? I think the overwhelming weight of evidence suggests that he's just crazy," (http://https://www.mediaite.com/tv/art-of-the-deal-writer-tony-schwartz-by-now-john-kelly-knows-trump-is-deeply-disturbed/) said Schwartz . "And not crazy, casual crazy. I'm talking about crazy - I'm not a psychiatrist, so I actually can get away with saying this - but crazy as a personality disorder."
Schwartz also discussed what he believes Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly thinks of Trump.
"I do believe John Kelly knows clearly that Trump is deeply disturbed and he is utterly untrustworthy," said Schwartz. "And he is managing him all the time out of some belief - put aside ideology - that it's better that he be there than he not be there. I never met anybody who worked for Trump who didn't know who Trump was within a very short time."
Schwartz spent 18 months shadowing Trump in the 1980s to write "The Art of the Deal," PBS reported. The book spent more than 48 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list upon publication in 1987. Since then, Schwartz has come for the president time and time again. When Trump first announced his candidacy, Schwartz said he blamed himself for putting "lipstick on a pig." The ghostwriter has often tweeted his anti-Trump sentiments, including a recent string of posts predicting that the president is going to resign before the end of his tenure.
"Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and Congress leave him no choice," Schwartz (http://http://www.ibtimes.com/trump-will-resign-says-art-deal-ghostwriter-tony-schwartz-2579710) wrote in August . "Trump's presidency is effectively over. Would be amazed if he survives till the end of the year. More likely resigns by fall, if not sooner."
Following Trump's decision to rescind the DACA "Dreamers" immigration program earlier in September, Schwartz took to (http://www.ibtimes.com/trump-hasnt-given-one-cent-book-royalties-charity-ghostwriter-says-2586397) Twitter to slam the president for not giving any of the proceeds from "The Art of the Deal" to charity.
"Trump hasn't given $1 of Art of Deal royalties to charity," Schwartz tweeted. "I give 100 percent of mine. All my donations for now will go to endangered immigrants."
Schwartz (http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/333999-art-of-the-deal-co-writer-trump-in-significant-meltdown) also told Anderson Cooper in May after the Justice Department appointed a special counsel in the Russia investigation that he believed Trump was in the midst of a "significant meltdown."
"He's in pure defensive mode," said Schwartz. "I think that he's being run by the part of his brain that's reactive and impulsive, not capable of reflection. The sense of siege that he feels because his sense of self-worth is so, so vulnerable that the series of things that have happened after overwhelming to him."
