'Allo 'Allo star Carmen dies aged 80.

'ALLO 'Allo star Carmen Silvera has died following a battle with lung cancer, her agent said.

Silvera, who played Rene Artois' long-suffering wife Edith in the hit wartime sitcom, died yesterday afternoon, aged 80.

Her agent and friend of 25 years, Barry Burnett, said: ``Carmen was diagnosed with lung cancer in April.

``She passed away peacefully in the actors' retirement home Denville Hall, in Northwood, west London.

``She celebrated her 80th birthday in June with friends and family and was cheerful right to the end.''
