'Aguero's winner is still most important City goal...'.

Byline: JOE BRAY

VINCENT Kompany says his crucial goal against Leicester last season was not as important as Sergio Aguero's winner vs QPR in 2012 to hand City the Premier League title.

Kompany's rocket from 25 yards was the only goal in last season's 1-0 win at the Etihad, a result that proved pivotal as City won their game in hand to go into the final day with an important one-point advantage over Liverpool.

The 4-1 win at Brighton secured the title, but Kompany is credited for his role in City's latest title success.

It was about what we and then always The moment proved bittersweet for City fans, though, as Kompany later announced his departure from the club to take up the player-manager role at former club Anderlecht. But as the defender returns to the Etihad for the first game since the Leicester win, Kompany has been reflecting on two of the most iconic goals of his spell in Manchester.

Vincent He told Sky Sports that although his goal was technically better than Aguero's, the QPR strike will be remembered as the most important in City's history.

"Typical City fashion would have been to lose the game and blow it," Kompany explained.

"That's what typical City meant in those days. Now typical City is defined by the Kun Aguero moment, you don't give up, you come back and win games.

"Was my goal against Leicester more important? His goal was more important! Mine, well, looked better, which I never thought I'd have on him!

"But his was crucial. He did do his best to wait until that time, because he had the worst 93 minutes of his career! But that's the beauty of his job - one second can always turn it around."

Going deeper into his winner against Leicester, Kompany revealed how he knew he would be leaving City at the end of the campaign, making the win even sweeter.

winning needed to win, after there is time for goodbyes Kompany "I'm not an emotional kind of guy," Kompany continued. "But it was borderline emotional when I scored a goal, and probably because everyone jumped on me and you couldn't see me. But I thought: 'What if this is the goal, what if this is the clean sheet we keep to the end of the game, and that gives us the title.' The game finished 1-0, the kids came on the pitch, technically my last game for the club at home, and I already knew [I was leaving]. So it was very emotional for that reason.

"But it's a time I'll never forget, City fans will never forget. Not disclosing it felt right. It wasn't about me, it was about winning what we needed to win, and then after there is always time for goodbyes."
