'AWARE: HIV TALK RADIO' ANNOUNCES SYNDICATION

CHICAGO, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- "Aware: HIV Talk Radio," the nation's only weekly radio program dealing with HIV AIDS information, announced its first syndication partnership with WKDU-FM/Philadelphia. The program, which airs weekly on sponsor station WNUA-FM/Chicago, hopes to become nationally syndicated in 20 major cities over the next 12 months.
"We are looking forward to a rewarding relationship with WKDU-FM; together we hope to provide their listening audience with new and useful information about AIDS and HIV," notes Chris DeChant, executive producer of "Aware."
"Aware" also made its first national broadcast debut featuring an interview with Miss America 1993, Leanza Cornett, an AIDS activist, on April 25. Pacifica Radio Network, via the public radio satellite system, sent this interview to a potential 485 stations with a possible 14 million listeners. Approximately 20 stations across the United States will air this broadcast in May and June. (Participating stations are listed below.)
WKDU-FM is a student-run full signal station with a new-age, alternative rock/talk format. The first syndicated broadcast of the Cornett interview will air May 19 on WKDU-FM. Stations in St. Louis and San Francisco have also expressed interest in broadcasting "Aware."
The 30-minute program, "Aware: HIV Talk Radio," airs every Sunday at 7 a.m. on WNUA-FM/Chicago. Hosted by DeChant and Sondra Roberts, the program contains an interview segment, "HIV News Updates," and answers listeners' questions about HIV diseases during "Just Ask." Public relations professional DeChant was diagnosed as HIV positive in 1991. Sondra Roberts is a radio/television professional and former WLUP-FM producer. "Aware's" first broadcast was August 2, 1992.
The national broadcast of "Aware: HIV Talk Radio" was made possible by a grant from FUJISAWA USA, Inc., manufacturers of "NEBUPENT"(A), aerosolized pentamidine, for the prevention of pneumocystis carinii pneumonia.
