'ASK ARNOLD' USA WEEKEND SIGNS ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER
 FOR WEEKLY FITNESS COLUMN
ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's most popular health expert, Arnold Schwarzenegger, will offer fitness advice to 33 million Americans each week in "Ask Arnold," an exclusive column for USA Weekend.
Schwarzenegger, whose name is synonymous with physical fitness, will answer readers' questions each week beginning with the Oct. 16-18 issue of USA Weekend. The current issue (Sept. 18-20) of the magazine invites readers to begin calling in questions immediately.
Schwarzenegger has taken on the challenge of reversing the decline in fitness today. He is Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, creator of the Great American Workout and a former Mr. Universe.
"During my travels on behalf of the President's Council, I was constantly asked for advice on health and fitness," says Schwarzenegger. "I realized that there is a definite void in the public's awareness of how easy it is to make physical fitness a part of daily life.
"I feel the broad readership of USA Weekend is an ideal way to get the most needed and requested information on fitness to the greatest number of people."
The Column will be Schwarzenegger's first regular print effort.
"It's a natural match," says USA Weekend Editor Marcia Bullard. "Arnold was looking for the best way to get his fitness advice out to millions of Americans. USA Weekend is on the cutting-edge in reader interaction, and this forum allows readers direct access to Arnold's expertise.
"Arnold is as knowledgeable and passionate about fitness as he is about moviemaking. I expect his column will be a smash hit."
Schwarzenegger will answer questions on everything from how to start a fitness program to whether a weekly bowling outing is considered exercise.
Schwarzenegger is the world's top box office star, an accomplished director and successful businessman. He has devoted much of his career to the pursuit and advocacy of physical fitness. He began to train as a bodybuilder at age 15, and by 20 won his first Mr. Universe title. His competitive bodybuilding career resulted in 13 world championship titles, more than any other bodybuilder in history. Appointed by President Bush in 1990 as the Chairman of the President's Council on Fitness and Sports, Schwarzenegger pledged to make the 90s the Fitness Decade. He has visited all 50 states, meeting with governors, key legislators, school officials, fitness leaders and schoolchildren to spread his message.
With a rate base of 16 million, USA Weekend reaches 33.5 million readers in 371 newspapers nationwide. Published by Gannett Co., Inc., USA Weekend is headquartered in Arlington, Va.
