'AMERICAN MUSIC SHOP' TAPES PROGRAMS IN WASHINGTON, D.C. AREA; EPISODES INCLUDE TNN'S FIRST SHOW FOR KIDS

NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- TNN: The Nashville Network's "American Music Shop" will travel in April to the Washington, D.C., area to tape four programs. The critically acclaimed weekly one-hour concert series will showcase country, bluegrass, pop and folk music performers at The Barns of Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va., from Wednesday, April 14, through Saturday, April 17. This will mark the first time that the program will tape outside of its Nashville home -- the Saratt Center in Vanderbilt University -- since its debut in March 1990.
The episodes, which will be telecast weekly on Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time in July, will bring established artists such as Patty Loveless and Charlie Daniels together with local talent from Washington, D.C. and Virginia, including the bluegrass band the Seldom Scene and folk artist John McCutcheon, among others. The episode hosted by Charlie Daniels will be the network's first show for kids.
"American Music Shop" offers viewers the opportunity to see their favorite country music stars perform in a loose, improvisational environment. The artists are backed by Mark O'Connor, the Country Music Association's 1991 and 1992 Musician of the Year, and his hand-picked band of Jerry Douglas (dobro), Matt Rollins (keyboards), Brent Mason (guitars), Harry Stinson (drums, backing vocals), and Glen Worf (bass).
"`American Music Shop' and The Barns were made for each other," says Brian O'Neill, executive producer of "American Music Shop." "The D.C. area is known as fertile ground for country, folk and bluegrass music, and The Barns is one of the most prestigious venues to showcase this music. Just like The Barns, our program features the best country performers and instrumentalists from all over the nation."
The taping schedule is as follows:
-- On Wednesday, April 14, Charlie Daniels will headline "Songs for Kids (and Parents Too)," featuring pop singer Nicolette Larson and renowned l?dren's performers John McCutcheon and duo Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer.
-- Patty Loveless, who has recently recovered from throat surgery, will host the Thursday, April 15, taping with her guests country singer Jimmie Dale Gile? and singer Jonathan Edwards. Also, the Seldom Scene, the Washington-based band, which celebrates its 20th anniversary, will join the performers.
-- The Friday, April 16, show will be hosted by Kelly Willis. She will be joined by country blues artist Jim Lauderdale and singer/songwriter Marshall Crenshaw.
-- For the final taping on Saturday, April 17, "American Music Shop" will spotlight up-and-coming artists including Warner Bros. singer Faith Hill, jazz/country banjo player Alison Brown and alternative group the Subdudes, among others.
"American Music Shop" is produced by TNN: The Nashville Network's Rusty Wilcoxen. Brian O'Neill is the creator and executive producer.
