'AL' OF HOME IMPROVEMENT'S 'TOOL TIME' TO BE OFFICIAL COOKIE CUTTER OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST COOKIE

 ARCADIA, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- To mark the opening of the mall's new food court, The Park Cafe, Richard Karn who portrays "Al," Tim Allen's sidekick on the make-believe "Tool Time" show on ABC's hit series "Home Improvement," will cut the world's largest cookie with a chain saw at 10 a.m., Oct. 15, at Santa Anita Fashion Park in Arcadia.
 The chocolate chip cookie will measure about 935 square feet across and 1 inch thick to break the world's record for the largest cookie. The current record was set by the Ripon Fest in Ripon, Wisc., in 1992 with a cookie of 907.9 square feet, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Karn will use a chain saw, and any other necessary tools, to serve up this world record chocolate chip cookie. Joining Karn with be Arcadia Mayor Joseph Ciraulo, members of the city council and mall officials. Representatives from Los Angeles County Weights and Measures and the Los Angeles County Environmental Health Department will officially measure and taste the cookie as required for verification and possible publication in the Guinness Book of World Records 1995 edition.
 The public is invited to the ceremony as well as throughout the day for free samples of the cookie which is expected to serve 20,000. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank will be distributing remaining cookie portions through its "Extra Helpings" program to local charitable organizations.
 A staff of 10 from Federico's Bakery of Duarte, Calif., will begin baking the world's largest cookie three days before the event. Ingredients for the gourmet cookie include:
 -- 684 pounds of flour
 -- 243 pounds of sugar
 -- 486 pounds of brown sugar
 -- 288 pounds of vegetable shortening
 -- 288 pounds of eggs (or 2,280 eggs)
 -- 198 pounds of margarine (or 792 cubes of margarine)
 -- 48 pounds of flavor and leavening
 -- 1,080 pounds of chocolate topping
 -- 3,236,000 pure chocolate chips (stretched out, chips would
 measure 6.13 miles)
 Santa Anita Fashion Park's food court, The Park Cafe, officially opened for business Oct. 1. The food court features eight restaurants which include A&W Hamburgers; China Inn; DQ Treats; Hot Dog On A Stick; Sbarro, the Italian Eatery; Tacomole; 1 Potato 2; and Au Bon Pain which is scheduled to open next spring. The 292-seat Park Cafe, part of the mall's current expansion project, is expected to provide more than 100 new jobs and generate nearly $40,000 toward the city's tax base its first year.
 Santa Anita Fashion Park is a 143-store mall located at 400 S. Baldwin Ave. in the city of Arcadia south of the 210 freeway between the 605 and 110 freeways. Department stores include The Broadway, JC Penney and Robinsons-May. The mall's expansion includes 20 specialty shops and a new Nordstrom store scheduled to open August '94.
