'AJC' and TKS Finalize Deal for Add-on Towers, Controls.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and TKS finalized their contract for six Color Top 7000CDH four-over-four towers and three reelstands to be added to the Norcross plant's TKS VBW presses (E&P Online, Feb. 22; April E&P). The towers will be equipped with TKS's anti-fan-out device, infeed and outfeed rollers, and TKS digital ink pumps.

The order includes ABB's MPS press controls, MPS production software and eight MPS consoles, two per press, to facilitate presetting of ink, water and compensators on all four presses. The ABB controls also provide production scheduling and product planning.

The tower and controls upgrades "will help us to better serve advertisers and readers," AJC Operations Director Richard Hawes said in a statement.

Equipment delivery is to start next March, with installation scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008.
