'A MINNESOTA HOLIDAY' TELEVISION MUSICAL SPECIAL PREMIERES ON DEC. 20; NEVILLE, STEELES AMONG PERFORMERS

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A new Minnesota holiday tradition will begin on Monday, Dec. 20, when Northwest Airlines and KSTP-TV present "A Minnesota Holiday," a live television special to benefit Boys and Girls Clubs in Minnesota.
The show will be broadcast from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature musical performances before a live audience at the University of Minnesota's Ted Mann Concert Hall. The broadcast also will include taped appearances by two Minnesota home-grown talents: storyteller Garrison Keillor and comic Louie Anderson. Performing live will be the Steeles, the Petersons, and Dawn L McArthur (sic), a Maple Grove, Minn., 9-year-old who won America's heart when she sang the "Star Spangled Banner" during baseball's 1991 American League playoffs at the Metrodome.
Also appearing as a special guest will be nationally known pop jazz singer Aaron Neville, who will perform several selections from his new holiday compact disc, "A Soulful Christmas."
Classic holiday arrangements will be performed by Philip Brunelle's Plymouth Music Series Choir, the Breck School Choir, and the Progressive Voices of Praise.
"This musical evening at the Mann Concert Hall will be a show within a show," said Harold Crump, KSTP-TV President and General Manager. "We'll have a two-hour stage presentation featuring some of Minnesota's finest musical talent, and we will share an hour of that program with television viewers around the state on a special live broadcast."
"The best part of this holiday celebration is that everyone who attends will be helping the Boys and Girls Clubs in their year-round work with the children of Minnesota," said Chris Clouser, Northwest Airlines' senior vice president for communications and human relations. "What better way to celebrate the holiday and what better reason to get together with family and friends."
Proceeds from the event will go to Boys and Girls Clubs located in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, St. Cloud and Detroit Lakes, Minn.
In addition to the Twin Cities television audience, viewers in Greater Minnesota will be able to see the show on WDIO-TV, Duluth; KSAX- TV, Alexandria; and KAAL-TV, Rochester/Austin.
The live performance at the Mann Concert Hall will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The live TV broadcast will cover one hour of the show and will air from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 20.
The show will be rebroadcast on KSTP from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25.
Tickets for the performance are on sale for $15 at the University of Minnesota arts ticket office at 612-624-2345.
