$500,000 LOAN AWARDED TO CD MANUFACTURER IN DELAWARE COUNTY

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Gov. Robert P. Casey today announced the approval of a $500,000 machinery and equipment (MELF) loan for PILZ America, a German compact disc (CD) manufacturer that is in the process of establishing its first North American manufacturing facility in Concordville, Delaware County.
The plant, which is scheduled to open later this year, is expected to create 75 jobs. To date the company has received $2.3 million in loans from the state Department of Commerce, including a $1.8 million loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA).
"Pennsylvania's investment has helped to attract a high technology facility to Delaware County that will generate jobs and enhance the region's reputation as a center for technology development," Casey said.
"In communities across the state, we are using the nation's best- funded economic development programs to attract new industry to the state and help our existing businesses modernize and expand," the governor said.
PILZ, which manufactures compact discs for record companies, including Warner, Polygram and EMI, will locate its plant on a four-acre site in the Concordville Industrial Park. The company is also moving its California warehouse operation to the site.
It will use the MELF loan to acquire two injection molding machines and two CD sputtering systems. It will cost PILZ more than $1 million to equip the plant. The cost of the entire project is more than $3.1 million.
MELF is targeted to industrial and manufacturing companies, agricultural processors and mining operations. The loans may be used for the acquisition and upgrading of machinery and equipment.
