LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCO (NYSE: ARC) announced today that its board of directors has approved a $2.5 billion capital spending budget for 1993.
In 1992, ARCO's capital spending totaled $2.3 billion with 52 percent, or $1.2 billion, invested in upstream operations for oil and natural gas exploration, development and production.
"The 1993 capital program maintains ARCO's emphasis on exploration and development programs internationally and in Alaska," said Lodwrick M. Cook, ARCO chairman and chief executive officer. "We made substantial progress in bringing proposed international projects to reality in 1992, and we are backing those projects with major capital commitments in 1993."
Approximately 60 percent, or $1.5 billion, of ARCO's 1993 capital will be invested in the exploration, development and production of oil and gas. In international operations, capital spending is estimated at $730 million. Alaska projects, including exploration, will total $490 million. Capital spending in the Lower 48 is budgeted at $330 million.
In refining and marketing operations, where the company is starting projects to meet the 1995 requirements of the Clean Air Act, $450 million, or 18 percent, of the capital is budgeted.
ARCO Chemical Co.'s 1993 capital program is projected at $260 million, or 10 percent of the ARCO capital budget. Coal operations will account for 5 percent, or approximately $120 million, while capital spending for transportation operations will total an estimated $70 million, or 3 percent.
