 $18,000 OF DECOMPOSED SCALLOPS SEIZED BY FEDERAL MARSHALS
 BOSTON, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Attorney Wayne A. Budd


announced yesterday that Deputy U.S. Marshals for the District of Massachusetts have seized approximately 6,000 pounds of decomposed scallops that were being stored to the account of Northern Wind, Inc. of New Bedford, Mass. The estimated value of the scallops, if fresh, is over $18,000. According to a complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the scallops were decomposed and unfit for consumption within the meaning of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
 This case was investigated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Kanwit, of Budd's Civil Enforcement and Defense Bureau.
