$100m library expansion on schedule.

Comprehensive preservation work and a major expansion of the Morgan Library, home to Pierpont Morgan's collection of rare literary works and manuscripts, is on schedule for early 2006 completion and grand re-opening to the public, it was reported by F.J Sciame Construction Co., construction manager for the $100 million project.

Recognized throughout the commercial real estate industry as the builder of choice for highly designed and technically sophisticated projects, Sciame is completing the architectural vision of the world-renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop, in conjunction with New York-based architecture firm Beyer Blinder Belle.

The design calls for the preservation of the library's three building complex which includes the 1906 Charles McKim Building, the 1928 Annex and the 19th Century structure which served as the Morgan family residence--and the addition of a newly constructed, 75,000-square-foot multi-level structure that ties all the components together.

In addition to meeting rigorous land-marking regulations, Sciame devised innovative solutions to overcome the challenges of an extremely confined construction site located atop solid bedrock in the midst of one of Manhattan's prominent, tree lined residential districts, Murray Hill.

"We were extremely excited to be chosen as the Construction Manager for such a challenging project as the Morgan Library," said Joseph Mizzi, Sciame Executive Vice President and Division Head.

"It's a pleasure to be working with Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Beyer Blinder Belle on such a highly designed and highly visible landmark project."

The new multi-level building is designed to provide the museum with an elegant entrance on Madison Avenue as well as improved internal circulation, including greater wheelchair accessibility; new and renovated galleries that will enable more of Pierpont Morgan's rare literary collection of books and manuscripts to be exhibited for the public; a modern auditorium; a new reading room with greater capacity and electronic resources; and substantially expanded space for storage. According to Mr. Mizzi, Sciame is currently completing the building's intricate exterior cladding system and is beginning to prepare the interior spaces for a series of phased turnovers with final completion scheduled for early 2006.
