"Town size" development launched.
A NEW town the size of Cupar, Dunblane or Linlithgow being built from scratch just outside Edinburgh has come closer with the launch of a 13-hectare commercial development.
When completed Shawfair will have 4,000 homes, new schools, community facilities and a new town centre beside the existing Shawfair railway station, creating an estimated 6,500 new jobs.
Whitehill Road, the commercial site just south of Fort Kinnaird, the UK's second largest retail park, was launched by Shawfair LLP, a partnership between Buccleuch Properties and Mactaggart & Mickel Homes. It is outlined for business and general industry use with plot sizes of one to 20 acres which can be subdivided and amalgamated to suit occupiers.
Marketing of Whitehill Road will be carried out jointly by Coates & Co and Colliers International.
"Development in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas has been in short supply in recent years," said Bob Fisher of Colliers International. "This site will help to ease the pent-up demand we are seeing in the East."
