"Pour-Friendly" HDPE Bottle.

Uniloy Milacron has developed what it calls a "pour friendly" HDPE (high-density polyethylene) milk jug. Featuring an off-center neck and handle, the new design is said to replicate the balance of a pitcher for easier handling and control.

The company notes that off-center necks usually require a ramdown neck finish--but this is incompatible with standard dairy industry capping. Moreover, the longer cycle time for the ram-down process also reduces production rates.

Bypassing this limitation, Uniloy Milacron produced the off-center finish (while adhering to the dairy industry standard) by using its own proprietary blowpin technology. The process also requires a onetime offset for the die block.

Thus, says the company, its new container can be produced with dairy-industry-standard neck finishes and no cycle-time penalty on standard Uniloy reciprocating blow-molding machines in sizes of 2 to 5 liters.
