"No place for intrigues, opportunism in Jordan's next stage", says minister.

Amman, April 18 (Petra) - Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communication, Rakan al-Majali, on Wednesday said there is no place for intrigues and opportunism in the next and new stage of Jordan's history and that the government does not pay heed to some "malevolent" voices that try to suggest that there is a split in the rule.

"These voices are distorting facts after they were shocked by the issuance of the draft elections law which goes beyond the past stage and boosts the approach towards a new phase that has no place for opportunism and intrigues," the minister told United Press International UPI.

Al-Majali, who is also government's spokesman, stressed that "All are united under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to take practical steps on the path of reform and change." He noted that the government is following the issue of 9 Tafileh detainees who have not been released because they committed offences against individuals and property, taking into account that what they had done was politically motivated.

"This issue is still being investigated by the State Security Court which will issue a verdict soon," the minister explained.

Upon directives by the King, the government has released 32 Tafileh activists and others who were arrested after they held a protest near the prime ministry in Amman.
