A new and innovative renewable energy solution has been deployed in Sidonge "A," Western Kenya as part of a pilot program to eradicate rural poverty by a new Social Entrepreneurship, RVE.SOL, headquartered in Portugal. The KUDURA hub will offer community utility services that create jobs, alleviate poverty, curb deforestation and reduce carbon emissions. Read today's blog post to see them turn the lights on for the first time.

This sustainable development will forever change the lives of impoverished Sidonge residents. By holistically combining solar photovoltaic panels, water purification and biodigester technology, KUDURA will replace the need for dirty charcoal, kerosene and wood and provide electricity, clean water, biogas for cooking and biofertiliser for crops; changing rural life forever for the village. "We don't want charity, we want an investment, a chance to create income and at the same time save the planet for our children. KUDURA meaning 'the power to change' in Swahili, will give us this opportunity," says Mr. Elsafus Mang'eni, Senior Chief and elder of Sidonge "A" Village, Kenya.

The KUDURA unit will be owned and managed by the community, kick-start a micro-economy and generate income which is ultimately the only sustainable way to reduce poverty. “Partnering with RVE.SOL to change rural life forever in Sidonge allows us to accelerate our developmental goals and address energy and water poverty. We believe this is the first small step in achieving many sustainable deployments for rural villages in Africa,” says Dr. Hannington Odame, Executive Director of the Centre for African Bio-Entrepreneurship (CABE).
