"International Scientific Spring-2013" from March 11.

ISLAMABAD -- International Scientific Spring (ISS)-2013, will commence from march 11 , here at National Centre for Physics (NCP) in collaboration with the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy.

The ISS has become a tradition since 2009, where a large number of scientists and researchers from around the globe gather to celebrate the festivity of the science culture in Pakistan.

According to an official in NCP, the ISS series was started in 2009, to inspire young students and researchers working in the field of physics and related disciplines, and to help the human resources necessary for scientific, technological, industrial and economic growth in Pakistan.

"Its goal is one of optimism for the future, that a spring of new ideas and thoughts would emerge, ultimately leading to prosperity and peace in the country and the region".

Traditionally, he said, a large number of young researchers and students have participated in the ISS activities, along with many internationally renowned scientists, adding in ISS-2012 there were 25 foreign and 364 local speakers/participants.

This year parallel sessions will emphasize the significant increase in the numbers of invited speakers and researchers working in the corresponding specialized areas.

Two workshops on "A half Century of Drift Wave and Beyond" and "Alternate Energy Technologies" will also be held after the ISS-2013 on Saturday, March 16.

Official said " Together with support from the Abdus Salam ICTP, the ISS-2013 and its associated workshops reflect NCP's expanding role in strengthening scientific and technological collaborations in the region for the betterment of society".

Topics which will be discussed includes Nanotechnology, Plasma Physics, Particle Physics and Accelerator Physics.

A scientific exhibition by the suppliers and industries will be held, providing opportunity for scientists and students to increase their awareness of the latest equipments that may impact their research activities.

Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Higher Education Commission Pakistan Science Foundation, University of Lahore and Pakistan State Oil are co-sponsors of this event.
