"Constituent Assembly is best democratic choice for future of Tunisia," says Mr. GheraE[macron]ri.
TUNIS (TAP) - "The Constituent Assembly is the best democratic
choice to draft a new Constitution and shape the country's
future", said Mr. Ghazi GheraE[macron]ri, member of the High
Authority for the Achievement of Revolution Objectives, Political Reform
and Democratic Transition. During a conference held by the Maghreb
Liberal Party on Saturday in Tunis, Mr. GheraE[macron]ri emphasised that
the Constituent Assembly will be the sole legitimate structure and
authority in Tunisia since the beginning of the 14 January Revolution.
The decree-law on election of the Constituent Assembly, he added,
guarantees to all social classes equal opportunities in this decisive
date for the country. The Constituent Assembly, he said, will be tasked
with drafting a new constitution and fulfill the role of Parliament in
its legislative function, discussing, in particular, the draft State
budget for 2012, enacting laws, adopting international conventions and
following up International commitments of the current government. It
will then lead to an interim government and an Interim Head of State to
run public affairs under its control till the organisation of new
legislative elections, the constitutional law expert added.
