"Asian Journal of Criminology" launched.

Springer Science + Business (New York) has launched "Asian Journal of Criminology," a new "interdisciplinary journal of crime, law and deviance in Asia." The new journal will be published twice in 2007 and quarterly beginning in 2008. An annual subscription costs $285.

Springer said the new title is designed to advance the study of criminology and criminal justice in Asia, to promote evidence-based public policy in crime prevention, and promote comparative studies about crime and criminal justice. It is a forum for criminologists, policymakers and legal practitioners on issues relating to crime, crime prevention, criminal law, medico-legal topics and the administration of criminal justice in Asian countries.

The journal has an emphasis on empirical research methods, including quantitative, qualitative, historical and comparative, that address crime in Asian contexts and published content from a variety of disciplines, including criminology, criminal justice, law, sociology, political science, psychology, forensic science, social work, urban studies, history, geography and anthropology.

The first two issues include articles on such topics as: crime, security and diversity; support and diversionary measures for juvenile offenders in Hong Kong; an historical analysis of the prison system in Taiwan; a comparison of Chinese and US college students' crime and crime control measures; parental and peer influences on adolescent drug use in Korea; capital punishment; and, the Japanese Mafia.
