Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN), the leading provider of customer-driven Internet applications, today announced that Vignette(R) applications are powering the new state of Michigan Web site, http://www.michigan.gov/, a comprehensive government services portal for citizens and visitors of the state.

Featuring an innovative organizational concept whereby information and services are grouped into themes (e.g., Travel and Recreation and Business Services) rather than state agencies, Michigan.gov brings most state functions such as obtaining license plate renewals, marriage certificates, hunting licenses and camping reservations within three clicks of the mouse.

Each themed area provides services, as well as events, news and other information, to help citizens keep abreast of what is going on with their state government. The site features more than 70 online services, including three new ones: Paying for Higher Education, Business Entity Search and a prescreening program that enables hospitals and clinics to determine a patient's potential eligibility for many government services.

The portal design greatly reduces the need for citizens to know the names of state agencies they are looking for and also allows the site to dynamically personalize the information that is presented to visitors who have voluntarily registered with the site.

Michigan's site is among the first state government Web sites to take advantage of advanced content management technology such as Vignette, which is commonly used in the private sector to enhance service levels and customer satisfaction. Michigan is the first state to implement this tool as a standard throughout all state agencies.

The Michigan.gov portal brings more than 70 interactive functions online and implemented the Vignette(R) Content Management Server (VCMS), the Vignette(R) Lifecycle Personalization Server (VLPS), the Vignette(R) Relationship Management Server (VRMS), the Vignette(R) Multi-channel Communication Server (VMCS) and the Vignette(R) Advanced Deployment Server (VADS), and provides a standard appearance across all state agency Web sites and uses a statewide search engine.

The site was planned and built with Vignette's partners IBM and Deloitte Consulting. Vignette's applications will integrate with Michigan's application server, IBM WebSphere(R), and its operating system, Sun Solaris(tm).
