silex technology america Launches Industry's Most Secure Ethernet to Wireless Client Adapter.

SX-600 Easily Adds 802.11 b/g Wireless Capabilities to Any Ethernet Product

TUSTIN, Calif. -- silex silex (sī´leks) (silicon dioxide),

technology america, Inc., a leader in the device connectivity industry, today launched the SX-600, an Ethernet to wireless client adapter with enterprise security. The SX-600 is a high-performance adapter which easily adds 802.11b/g wireless capabilities to any Ethernet product. The SX-600 capitalizes on the growing need for enterprise security.

According to industry reports, almost 85 percent of large U.S. enterprises have admitted to having suffered an IT security incident over the past 12 months, and the number of breaches continues to rise by 17 percent since 2003.

Network security is only as strong as its weakest link. Therefore, if you put a poorly secured device server on your network, it can expose your entire network to hackers. In fact, many network administrators now require that all devices conform to specific network security standards, and devices that do not support these standards cannot be used on the network.

"With enterprise security on the minds of our customers, we needed to develop a connectivity solution that addressed both wireless networking and security," said Keith Sugawara, general manager of the connectivity and wireless division of silex. "By being the first to include enterprise-level security, we are demonstrating our commitment to incorporating the latest technology into our products and providing the best possible solutions to our customers without compromising any current network functionality."

Enterprise Level Security

The SX-600 leads the industry by including all major wireless networking security standards. The SX-600 includes enterprise-level security features including access control lists, complete protocol and application enable/disable control, read and write configuration passwords, and SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  community name configuration. The wireless models also add 802.1x Extensible Authentication Protocol Extensible Authentication Protocol, or EAP, is a universal authentication framework frequently used in wireless networks and Point-to-Point connections. It is defined by RFC 3748.  (EAP) with Transport Layer Security (TLS), Tunneled Transport Layer Security (TTLS TTLS Tunneled Transport Layer Security

Important features of LEAP are dynamic WEP keys and mutual authentication (between a wireless client and a RADIUS server).  (LEAP), Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol
PEAP is also an acronym for Personal Egress Air Packs.

It is part of the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard.  (WEP) encoding; WPA WPA: see Work Projects Administration.

About the SX-600

The SX-600 is ideal for connecting Ethernet-enabled printers and multifunction printers (MFPs) to a wireless network without having to change any of the drivers or management utilities. The product provides a solution for users to take advantage of all the functionality of the Ethernet device when connected to a wireless network. For example, when using the SX-600 users can still track print jobs, benefit from the built-in network security, monitor toner levels and use all the network tools.

The SX-600 also brings 802.11b/g wireless capabilities to any Ethernet-enabled product such as point-of-sale terminals, medical devices, and networked industrial control devices. It provides a cost-effective way for customers who want to move to a wireless network but already have invested in Ethernet devices. Other major benefits of the SX-600 include:

* No drivers needed - works with any Ethernet-enabled device

* No extra software required

* Supports existing network utility software without compromise

* Supports networked scanning capabilities wirelessly

* Windows software configuration and web browser interface for easy setup

* Ethernet pass-through means any security already provided by your Ethernet-enabled device

* Once configured, the SX-600 is platform independent so it will work with any operating system and any network device

* Metal (industrial) and plastic (office) versions will be available

* silex also offers and embedded solution (SX-550) for device manufacturers who want to implement secure wireless functionality internally.

Availability

The SX-600 will be available in Q4 2006 for a MSRP of $285. Samples of the silex SX-600 are available immediately. Those interested in learning more about the SX-600 should contact silex technology america, Inc. at (801) 748-1199, or www.silexamerica.com.
