K2 UNVEILS NEW EXTREME FX(TM) SKI FOR '93-94
VASHON, Wash., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- K2 Corporation unveils its

all-new Extreme FX(TM), the next generation of America's top-selling ski, the K2 Extreme, at the Las Vegas SIA show.
The Extreme FX is a flagship model in the most complete technological offering in K2's history. After two intense years of R&D, the American manufacturer has unveiled a 1993 line with more new models and technological advancements than ever before.
"The Extreme FX is a high-tech, high performance ski which will change the rules of the game for all-mountain high-performance skis in 93," said Tim Petrick, K2 vice president and general manager. "It is designed for anyone from the aspiring expert to the pro caliber extreme skier who demands full-blown expert all-mountain performance, combined with a level of skiability and forgiveness that makes it pure joy to ski, day in and day out."
The "FX" in K2's new Extreme stands for "special effects," which are a blend of K2's state-of-the-art Triaxial Braided V-Cap(TM) design -- a next-generation load-bearing shell-type construction -- with its exclusive new Multi-Axis Damping(TM) system. This system allows the base and edge assembly to act as an independent suspension, making the ski extremely versatile, smooth and fun in all terrain and snow conditions.
"Our new ski is quick in short turns, while maintaining an accurate, smooth, confident feel on the hardest snow at high speeds," said Petrick. "It's one of those skis you feel at home with from the first turn. After two runs, you fell like you've been on it your entire life.
The performance level of the Extreme FX is enhanced by its noticeably neutral feel. It works basically wherever the skier chooses to maintain his or her balance. On steep slopes, it is also designed to offer an innate dexterity and quickness while maintaining an exceptionally accurate and smooth feel on the snow. The Extreme FX is "a strictly point 'em and go ski. Strictly autopilot," say K2 testers.
Additional technical features contributing to the versatile and smooth feel of the Extreme FX include a new 8.1 sidecut that gives the ski exceptional turning capabilities without sacrificing stability or speed, along with narrow carbon steel edges for excellent grip. Carbon fiber reinforcement has been added to increase durability and decrease weight, while the ski's new multi-colored sintered racing base offers exception glide characteristics. The Extreme FX is available in lengths of 180-207 cm. and a dramatic new color combination of teal, black, lava red and purple, with lime and white highlights.
K2, a division of Anthony Industries, is America's largest manufacturer of ski equipment. The company distributes its skis, snowboards, accessories, apparel and related sports equipment in 27 countries worldwide.
