nVIEW CORPORATION ANNOUNCES INTENT TO ACQUIRE MARTIN MARIETTA CORPORATION'S PROJECTION DISPLAY PRODUCTS OPERATION

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- nVIEW Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: NVUE) announced today that it has signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire the Projection Display Products Operation (PDPO) of Martin Marietta Corporation (NYSE: ML). PDPO was formerly a part of General Electric Company Aerospace, which was acquired by Martin Marietta earlier this year. PDPO offers a full line of video and computer data projectors capable of projecting high quality images for large screen viewing for business, government, education and entertainment. The terms of the letter of intent have not been disclosed.
nVIEW Corporation is a designer and manufacturer of liquid crystal display (LCD) projection products which project electronic images generated from computer and video sources for large screen viewing. nVIEW's product line of projection panels and full function projectors are used by businesses, schools and various government agencies in a wide range of sales, education and presentation applications. Highly regarded for their superior quality and performance, nVIEW's projection products are sold through a worldwide reseller network.
The PDPO line of electronic projection products incorporate three different image-creating technologies: fluid light valve, cathode ray tube (CRT) and liquid crystal display (LCD). PDPO's proprietary fluid light valve technology, developed by General Electric Company, is capable of projecting high resolution images up to 30 feet wide and is used in a variety of product applications from flight simulators to color replay screens at sports facilities. Other PDPO projection products utilize CRT technology and, more recently, LCD technology to project images direct from computer and video sources, primarily for use in board rooms, schools and conference centers.
William M. Donaldson, nVIEW's president and chief executive officer commenting on the proposed transaction, stated: "The addition of PDPO will permit nVIEW to greatly expand its array of projection products and satisfy the current and future projection needs of a broad range of markets. When you consider the combined technological expertise, the scope of the complementary product lines, the breadth of the combined distribution network as well as the potential positive benefits derived from economies of scale, this transaction provides an attractive opportunity for everyone concerned."
The transaction is subject to negotiation, execution and approval of a definitive agreement by both Martin Marietta Corporation and nVIEW Corporation. Completion of the transaction, of which the companies provided no assurance, is expected within 90 days.
