Don't Blame the Music!

All musicians, Eminem included, should have the right to rap or sing about whatever they want ("They Want Your MTV MTV

Eminem doesn't mean anything harmful with his lyrics. If you pay close attention to the ends of his songs, he says he's kidding. Limp Bizkit's music has bad lyrics too. My guess is that both bands have some extra anger that they haven't been able to get rid of, so that's why they sing what they do. Often, when I get upset, I go to my room and turn on some Eminem or Limp Bizkit to get rid of my hatred.

My friends and I all listen to the music that is being attacked. Do musical artists put a gun or knife in our hand and tell us to pull the trigger? No, they sing what they feel, and anyone who honestly takes them seriously has a few problems themselves. Anger kills people, not music.

With all the unhappy things Eminem has been through, cut the guy some slack! And let him enjoy his time in the spotlight. Recently, I had a big Eminem poster behind my door, so my parents wouldn't have to look at it. Then I went to my grandma's house for a while, and guess what? When I came home, the poster was gone. Where was it? In the garbage! I was crying for about an hour. Let us kids enjoy Eminem's music, and let him enjoy what he is doing. Then maybe he will clean up his act.

These rappers are telling the lives of many young people in this world.

CARMEN NEGRON Chicago, Ill.

I love Eminem's music and I've figured out when he's being serious and when he's just playing around. If you try to take away our MTV, you will definitely lose my vote.

JOE LEBLANC Katy, Tex.

Some of the violence and explicit lyrics today go too far. But if parents want to keep their children away from such influences, they have to not own a TV or a radio. It is impossible to shelter a child from our culture.

LILY CAVANAUGH Portsmouth, R.I.

I am 19 and I have a son of my own, and if he ever wanted to listen to Eminem's music I would let him. Why, whenever anything goes wrong, is it always blamed on the music? What song encouraged Bill Clinton to do what he did?
