ipUnplugged AB, the leading vendor of Mobile VPN products, will be previewing some major enhancements to its product portfolio at the CTIA 2004 Trade Show & Conference. ipUnplugged will be the first vendor in the industry to provide adequate support for VoIP in its Mobile-VPN implementation. Its customers will be able to achieve significant cost savings by avoiding extensive infrastructure upgrades throughout the intranet. Universal security and mobility for data and voice can now be achieved by merely installing one client and one gateway. As such, the ipUnplugged Mobile VPN solution is an ideal service for wireless carriers to offer enterprises in order to boost usage of 2.5G/3G and public Wi-Fi networks by mobile professionals.

The ipUnplugged technology being previewed at CTIA contains the following main feature enhancements.

-- Connectivity - The new ipUnplugged Roaming Client can invoke

login/logout scripts when in public Wi-Fi networks while still

maintaining its VPN connection. This keeps the laptop always

protected against Internet attacks.

-- Mobility - ipUnplugged establishes a new benchmark for fast

handovers -- averaging 150 milliseconds in LAN/WLAN

environments. This makes it the first multi-network product on

the market ideal for both data and voice.

-- Optimality - ipUnplugged adds hardware support for payload 

compression. The ipUnplugged Mobile VPN solution can now

provide up to 2 times better network utilization without

sacrificing the max capacity of the Roaming Gateway (310 Mbps

for 3-DES or AES encryption and 5,000 simultaneous Mobile VPN

sessions).

-- Security - A locked-down, tamper-free mode of the ipUnplugged

Roaming Client is introduced, placing all the controls of

end-point security and network selection at the fingertips of

the IT manager.

-- Management - ipUnplugged leads the way when it comes to client

administration with zero-reboot, silent install procedure, and

further options to integrate Roaming Client with SW

distribution systems like Active Directory Remote Installation

Services.

Solutions Overview

The ipUnplugged Mobile-VPN resolves the conflict between ease-of-use and end-point security that has prevailed in the VPN industry for the last couple of years. Whereas legacy IP-VPNs fail to provide the ease-of-use required by mobile professionals, SSL-based VPNs lack the device control required by IT-managers. The ipUnplugged Mobile VPN counteracts this dilemma, by relying on a centrally managed client to automate the establishment of a secure VPN connection to the gateway once the user is in an insecure wireless network or on the Internet. Product Overview

The mobile VPN solution consists of three products that combine to provide a scalable, standardized and highly available solution that is also cost efficient and easy to deploy.

-- Roaming Gateway aggregates traffic from remote nodes and

forwards it to the Roaming Client's current position. It

handles mobility and security across multiple access forms,

providing VPN connectivity and managing personalized access

rights for individual users. It supports interconnection with

the RADIUS-compliant Roaming Server, providing authentication,

authorization, and accounting (AAA). It also provides Internet

Access Control, enabling users to access Internet services via

a Web login page.

-- Roaming Client software is installed on a laptop or PDA that

manages the secure connection to the corporate network as well

as the automatic, seamless choice of network, which is

transparent to the mobile user. Easily installed by the end

user, it provides secure mobility within campus areas (LAN to

WLAN) and outside the office (public WLAN, GPRS, cdma2000/3G).

When the corporate LAN is unplugged, the Roaming Client

automatically switches to WLAN and encrypts the traffic,

eliminating cumbersome network configurations.

-- Roaming Server offers a scalable, powerful and user-friendly

tool for network configuration, security management and

subscriber data handling. It provides complete AAA

functionality for seamless roaming in multiple access networks

and can map easy-to-use service profiles to complex firewall

rules, distributing those profiles to the required network

entities.
