ipGen Emerges As Market Leader in MEGACO Protocol Technology.

Business & High Tech Editors

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2001

ipGen's MEGACO See MGCP/MEGACO.  Protocol Stack The set of protocols used in a communications network. A protocol stack is a prescribed hierarchy of software layers, starting from the application layer at the top (the source of the data being sent) to the data link layer at the bottom (transmitting the bits on the wire).  Demonstrates Superior Conformance

Results at 2nd Consecutive Interoperability Event

ipGen, Inc., a softswitch and multimedia applications provider for convergent networks, again demonstrated their market leadership in MEGACO protocol technology during the second industry interoperability event. The MEGACO (RFC (Request For Comments) A document that describes the specifications for a recommended technology. Although the word "request" is in the title, if the specification is ratified, it becomes a standards document. 3015) Interop event was held on February 18-22 in Durham, New Hampshire Durham is a town in Strafford County, New Hampshire, USA. The population was 12,664 at the 2000 census. Durham is home to the University of New Hampshire. History , and attracted a number of organizations with independently developed implementations of the MEGACO protocol for both Media Gateways and Media Gateway Controllers. ipGen's robust Media Gateway Controller implementation successfully interoperated with all 11 Media Gateways at the event.

ipGen's MEGACO stack seamlessly performed Level 1 (hot line call) and Level 3 (digit processing call) conformance tests and successfully interoperated in multi-vendor, multi Media Gateway scenarios, including a Trunking Gateway and a Residential Gateway. The event was held to assess the ability of independent development teams from different companies to create inter-operable devices based on the recently issued Standard RFC3015, and to identify areas where differences in interpretation could adversely impact interoperability.

"After proving our superior conformance at consecutive Interop events, ipGen has demonstrated strong market leadership in the protocol stack arena, establishing our presence as a leading protocol developer," according to according to

Alcatel, with a Softswitch Media Gateway Controller implementation using ipGen's MEGACO stack, was also a participant at the event. According to Shai Thakrar, Alcatel Senior Manager for the product, "As a provider of a high capacity, robust softswitch, we needed an equally high performance stack at its foundation. The ipGen MEGACO stack has successfully met our needs."

GN Nettest, who also participated in the event, utilizes ipGen's MEGACO stack at the core of their recently released MEGACO/H.248 interEMULATOR(TM) test product. "Our MEGACO/H.248 interEMULATOR performs thorough testing of both Media Gateways (MG) and Media Gateway Controllers (MGC MGC Mammalian Gene Collection
