iVivity Demonstrates Intelligent Services Module for IBM BladeCenter.

ATLANTA & IRVINE, Calif. -- Teams up with StoreAge(R) to demonstrate a full-featured network-based storage application residing on an iVivity iDiSX(R) powered intelligent multi-protocol switch in the switch bay of IBM BladeCenter The IBM BladeCenter is IBM's blade server architecture. History
Originally introduced in 2002, based on engineering work started in 1999, the IBM BladeCenter was a relative late comer to the blade market.

iVivity(R), the leading provider of storage network building block technologies including industry leading iDiSX(R) storage network processors, and StoreAge Networking Technologies, the leading provider of split-path SAN storage management and advanced multi-tiered, data protection solutions, are demonstrating the delivery of value-added applications for IBM BladeCenter on the flexible and programmable iDiSX architecture. The iDiSX Intelligent Services Module (ISM See ISM band. ) is a high performance Ethernet and Fibre-channel based intelligent switch that resides in the Ethernet switch A device that connects clients and servers to each other in an Ethernet network. See switched Ethernet.  bay of IBM BladeCenter. Its 40Gbps internal bandwidth is shared between 14 internal 1Gb Ethernet and 4 external 4Gb Fibre-channel ports. It utilizes the built-in programmability of the iVivity iDiSX(R) storage network processor to execute value-added SAN services provided by the StoreAge Networking Technologies Storage Virtualization Treating storage as a single logical entity without regard to the hierarchy of physical media that may be involved or that may change. It enables the applications to read from and write to a single pool of storage rather then individual disks, tapes and optical devices.  Manager (SVM SVM Support Vector Machines

"Our industry-leading storage network processor architecture combines full application programmability with front-end and back-end In their most general meanings, the terms front end and back end refer to the initial and the end stages of a process flow. These terms acquire more special meanings in particular areas.  protocol processing in one chip for record breaking performance, power and real estate metrics which can be used to great benefit in today's high Today's High

density infrastructures like blade centers," said Martin Mainini, director of marketing at iVivity. "The high performance, multi-protocol capabilities of the iDiSX architecture, in combination with value-added storage services provided by our partners like StoreAge, builds solid solutions to real customer problems. We are excited to be StoreAge-Enabled within the iDiSX architecture."

The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  storage manufacturers to take advantage of and deliver total solutions to their customer base. OEMs can now combine leading edge hardware that provides full 10 Gbps line rate throughput with applications to manage and improve data utilization.

"iVivity's system-on-a-chip storage network processor forms the perfect platform for the deployment of our SAN Storage Services. In conjunction with our Storage Virtualization Manager (SVM), value-added SAN storage services are now fully deployable in blade computing infrastructures," said Kevin Liebl, vice president of marketing at StoreAge Networking Technologies. "This demonstration shows how having standards-based tools and applications reduces the development complexity of porting software to the iVivity platform. The total development was completed in weeks, not months with limited staff resources."

"iVivity, a founding member of Blade.org, continues to develop unique and innovative products for the IBM BladeCenter. iVivity's delivery of SAN services via ISM is a great example of how Blade.org members are creating exciting offerings that will help BladeCenter customers increase the value of their blade computing environments," said Lisa Galish, chair, Blade.org marketing committee. "This demonstration is a creative combination of complementary technologies that shows the potential for OEMs to develop and deliver valued-add solutions to their customers for BladeCenter."

environments. We are happy to continue our relationship with a leading-edge network application company like StoreAge Networking Technologies, working closely together to demonstrate real solutions for real customer problems," said Zulfiqar Qazilbash, co-founder and chief strategy officer for iVivity. "Our demonstration of StoreAge SAN storage services running on the iDiSX powered Intelligent Services Module for IBM BladeCenter is an outstanding example of next generation solutions built on programmable platforms for network storage infrastructures."
