SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2002

iMarkup Solutions Inc., (www.imarkup.com), a leading provider of Web-based collaboration tools A collaboration tool is something that helps people collaborate. The term is often used to mean collaborative software, but collaboration tools were being used before computers existed, a piece of paper can for example can be used as collaboration tool. , announced the general availability of the iMarkup Document Review Server. Developed to address the needs of enterprise users collaborating on documents, the iMarkup Document Review Server provides a powerful and easy way to distribute, collaborate on, annotate annotate - annotation  and review documents throughout all stages of the document review process. During workflow, versioning and review cycles, all shared documents are stored securely on the Document Review Server and accessible to all appropriate users. Markups, notes and annotations made by the reviewers can be displayed either by one reviewer at a time, a subset of reviewers or by all simultaneously.

Unlike other tools available to workgroups and virtual teams, the Document Review Server can be self-administered, allowing users to create workgroups, invite users into their workgroups and set permissions. Users can easily and securely publish and distribute documents to members of their workgroups for feedback and review. Documents are automatically rendered in HTML HTML

Original documents are stored on the iMarkup Document Review Server, allowing them to be "checked out" while also preventing others from editing these documents simultaneously. Notification facilities within the Document Review Server then allow authors to automatically notify all reviewers when the documents are ready. Authors have the ability to track reviewers' progress as they work on their documents. Security permissions identify which documents are accessible to which users, controlling the usage of those documents.

"Many companies are beginning to define a collaboration strategy that includes a focus on both individual and group productivity. Tools that enable users to effectively collaborate in workgroups, whether real or virtual, are necessary contributors to that strategy. We also believe that teamware or virtual workspace tools will enhance that collaboration over the next several years. Products that provide the workflow mechanisms necessary to improve productivity and make the process more efficient will be mandatory," stated Matthew Cain, Vice President, Web and Collaboration Strategies, META Group.

"We believe that businesses today are focusing on making their workflow processes as efficient as possible. As a result they want to easily and quickly update and publish their documents," stated John O'Brien John O'Brien may refer to:

With iMarkup Document Review Server all changes and requests from reviewers can be routed directly back to authors so the documents can be easily updated. In addition, all versions of the source documents, along with reviewers' annotations, are stored on the Document Review Server and easily retrieved to compare previous versions. "We believe that overlaying and storing annotations separately from original documents is a more effective way to work -- and this also eliminates contaminating con·tam·i·nate
