goo Research Announces Results of Survey on How Internet, Landline and Mobile Phones are Used.

 Resonant and Mitsubishi Research Institute, has released the results of a survey on the usage of the Internet and landline and mobile phones. The survey was conducted with 25,520 of the service users and its registered survey participants from August 22 to 29, 2005.

When asked about what they use for the Internet connection, 60.5% of the respondents answered "ADSL See DSL.

," followed by FTTH (Fiber To The Home) See FTTP.  (21.2%), cable Internet Internet access via the cable companies. There are two kinds of service. One uses a cable modem to connect to a computer, and the other uses an enhanced cable box that provides Internet access directly at the TV.  (13.0%), while 5.5% still use "dialup/ISDN connections. That means that 82.2% of the respondents already have broadband connections.

Among those who changed access lines before, when asked how, 33.7% replied, "from dialup/ISDN to ADSL." When asked if they have ever used dialup/ISDN, 63.1% replied they have, while 30.2% said no because they have used broadband connections from the start. As for the service that they want to use in the future, the most favored choice was "FTTH" (39.1%), followed by 2faster ADSL" (25.3%) and "ADSL" (17.7%).

When asked about how they want to use a fixed-line videophone (1) (VideoPhone) A line of videophones (definition #1 below) from AT&T that were introduced in the early 1990s and later pulled off the market due to poor sales. The first models came with a price tag above $1,000, and a pair were needed. See Picturephone. , 55.4% replied, "for communications with family and friends," followed by "for specific purposes" (10.5%), and a total of 74.1% showed interest in using videophones.

When asked about how they intend to use a surveillance camera, 70.4% said, "at shopping malls or sports facilities See:

," followed by "where service is provided (hospitals, child-care centers, etc.)" (63.6%) and "sightseeing spots" (63.2%). As for the camera use at home, 49.6% perceived the idea positively, while the rest negatively.

When asked with whom they would communicate via a videophone, 47.7% suggested "with persons living in the same prefecture." Also, when asked where they want to get the camera installed, 61.1% suggested, "in the same prefecture."

As for the time when a videophone and a surveillance camera are used most often, the most cited answer for the videophone use was "6 in the evening to midnight" (45.5%), followed by "noon to 6 in the evening" (32.9%). For the surveillance camera, 40.1% answered, "noon to 6 in the evening," followed by "6 in the evening to midnight" (25.1%).

When asked about what level of quality is necessary for the camera and for video content streaming/downloading, 62.8% and 81.0% said "quality higher than that of current analog TV" for the camera and for video content, respectively.
