eccs, inc. Synchronix receives Raid Advisory Board Failure Tolerant Disk System Plus classification.

TINTON FALLS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 1997--The Synchronix(TM) Storage Management System is one of the first to receive the RAID Advisory Board A Massachusetts-based organization founded in 1992 that was involved with education, standardization and classification of RAID storage systems. eccs has been designing fault tolerant The ability to continue non-stop when a hardware failure occurs. A fault-tolerant system is designed from the ground up for reliability by building multiples of all critical components, such as CPUs, memories, disks and power supplies into the same computer.  data storage systems that ensure the protection of data. George Waterson, Manager of Product Marketing for eccs said "We are very pleased with the FTDS plus rating that the Synchronix(TM) system has received. The Company has always considered customer data to be paramount, and goes to extraordinary lengths to ensure and preserve the integrity of that data. Synchronix provides end users with the safety to run a 24 hour environment, which will keep your data continuously available should a failure occur, and do all this without software or upgrades required on the host. RAB has detailed a set of stringent requirements which the eccs Synchronix(TM) product has adhered to confirming what eccs and our customers already know. Now users with the new RAB classification can be assured of complete data protection without the concern of the structural differences of the data as it resides on the disk." The Synchronix(TM) systems are being used today in a multitude of now safe, high profile environments, which demonstrates that Synchronix is emerging as a market leader.

The RAB recently replaced the use of the previously used numerical RAID levels, with new levels which are now based on data availability and protection features of the vendors disk systems. This approach was adopted to simplify, yet provide more insightful information for evaluating various offerings to customers and users of data storage systems. The goal is that the new levels will be of greater benefit to these users in understanding the actual protection they are obtaining from each vendors' products.

Robert Gray, Research Manager of Storage Subsystems The part of a computer system that provides the storage. It includes the controller and disk drives. See storage system. ,, from International Data Corporation stated that "By eccs gaining the FTDS plus rating , they have distinguished themselves from the multitude of vendors who offer RAID storage. The FTDS plus classification adds to the differentiation of the Synchronix(TM) systems. Combined with eccs' implementation of array based failover methodology, rather than the more common host based (1) A system controlled by a central or main computer. A host-based system typically refers to a hierarchical communications system controlled by a central computer.

(2)
failover implementation which requires drivers to be installed on the host system, they have deployed one of the most fault tolerant and unique open systems storage solutions available today."

Each of the RAB classifications also can indicate a premium plus level, which requires protection against a multitude of failures. To obtain classification a data storage system must meet all the criteria defined by the RAB for certification. There are a total of 18 classification criteria for the FTDS plus classification which were met by the Synchronix(TM) system and certified by a RAB examiner.

eccs , inc. is a developer and manufacturer of high performance and fault tolerant RAID storage controllers and related mass storage products for open systems and network storage led by Synchronix(TM) family of outstanding storage products, The company features mass storage subsystems and other data storage enhancements and related services. eccs is headquartered in New Jersey.
