The creators of ecampus.com's "Save Them Goldfish" turned to Flash technology to construct the on-line arcade game An arcade game is a coin-operated entertainment machine, typically installed in businesses such as restaurants, pubs, video arcades, and Family Entertainment Centers. Most arcade games are redemption games, merchandisers, video games or pinball machines. , then pushed the program to its limits. As a result, shockwave.com has named "Save Them Goldfish" their Site of the Day for October 27.

This is the second recognition ecampus.com has received in less than a week for "Save Them Goldfish." Webbygames.com named the site its Game of the Week for October 21-28. ecampus.com was also selected as the Yahoo Site of the Day when the virtual bookstore launched in mid-July.

The game was inspired by ecampus.com's provocative "Goldfish" commercial, part of their Fall marketing campaign. In the ad, a broke and hungry college student decides to stir-fry his pet goldfish in a moment of desperation. In the game, you play the role of the "eco-friendly political science major" trying to stop your roommate from frying your "adorable a·dor·a·ble

"It's the detail that sets this game apart from other Flash games," points out Michael Szabo, lead programmer A lead programmer is a software engineer in charge of one or more software projects. Alternative titles include Development Lead, Technical Lead, Senior Software Engineer, Software Design Engineer Lead (SDE Lead), Software Manager  and project director for "Save Them Goldfish."  sound and is not pre-scripted, making it one of only a few existing Flash games operating at that level of complexity. The game also increases in difficulty over time, making it challenging for players at virtually any level. The result is a complex and interactive environment unlike anything you would expect from Flash. In fact, "Save Them Goldfish" reads more like a Saturday morning cartoon Saturday morning cartoon is the colloquial term for the animated television programming which was typically scheduled on Saturday mornings on the major American television networks from the 1960s to the 1990s.  than an on-line game.

"We knew what we wanted to achieve with this game. It was definitely a challenge to take that mental image and execute it in Flash," says Justin Morgan Justin Morgan, 1792–1821, American horse, the foundation sire of the Justin Morgan breed of horses. Originally called "Figure," the stallion was renamed for his first owner, Justin Morgan (1747–97), after both owner and horse were dead. , the multi-media developer whose animation and artwork is featured in "Save Them Goldfish!" ecampus.com has also utilized Flash on its home page--an application more in keeping with the technology's intended purpose.

"We've got one of the best creative teams around, and they will continue to push the envelope with this technology," says Steve Stevens, President and C.E.O. "There is no question that they will keep us at the forefront of content development in ecommerce."
