eTelemetry Supports e911 Compliance by Finding the Physical Location of VoIP Phones in Real-Time; Locate911 Network Appliance Dynamically Identifies VoIP Phones on Enterprise Network.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- eTelemetry, Inc., today announced the release of Locate911, a network appliance (1) A specialized device for use on a network. For example, Web servers, cache servers and file servers can be implemented as general-purpose computers with the appropriate software or as network appliances, which are computers dedicated to a single function and cannot do anything  that enables organizations to dynamically identify the physical location of a VoIP phone See IP phone and softphone.  on their network. Locate911 provides the physical location of IP phones, which is a key requirement of e911 compliance for enterprises.

Locate911 also includes closed-loop asset tracking and management capability by associating the IP phone to a specific physical location. When a phone is moved, Locate911 can be configured con·fig·ure

to automatically request verification from the phone's assigned user, who must confirm the move before the phone will work at its new location. Locate911 can also notify the network manager when an IP phone is moved.

Alternatively, the network manager can choose to lock IP phones to a specific switch port. With this setting, the IP phone will only work at its assigned physical location and cannot be moved. In this way, the network manager can prevent unauthorized IP phone moves.

Locate911 dynamically provides a real-time accessible, searchable, and exportable database of IP phone's physical location, IP address, end-user contact information and the VoIP MAC address. This automated au·to·mate

Locate911 is a small fanless network appliance that requires no additional server software or client-side software agents. It supports all IP phones, and a web-based interface is provided for importing facilities information, VoIP MAC addresses, and network documentation, making it easy to set up and use. The information that Locate911 automatically maintains provides network managers with the ability to reconcile a phone location with their existing call manager solution. Network managers can use Locate911's XML-based web services (1) Loosely, any online service delivered over the Web. Such usage appears in articles from non-technical sources, but not in IT-oriented publications, because definition #2 below describes the correct use of the term.  to bring this information into their existing call manager solution in real-time.

Based on eTelemetry's technology that dynamically discovers the physical location and individual behind an IP address, Locate911 automates the manual and tedious efforts faced by network managers to maintain and document IP phones on a network for e911 compliance.

"Locate911 is a logical expansion of our Locate product family," said Ermis Sfakiyanudis, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "The automation of asset management creates an auditable system of record for IP Telephony The two-way transmission of voice over a packet-switched IP network, which is part of the TCP/IP protocol suite. The terms "IP telephony" and "voice over IP" (VoIP) are synonymous.  at a fraction of the cost of similar solutions."

Locate911 includes unlimited licenses and is available now. Locate911 is being demonstrated at eTelemetry's booth #2543 at FOSE FOSE Federal Office Systems Exposition  2006.
