ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- eTelemetry today announced the release of new features for Metron, the only network appliance (1) A specialized device for use on a network. For example, Web servers, cache servers and file servers can be implemented as general-purpose computers with the appropriate software or as network appliances, which are computers dedicated to a single function and cannot do anything  to passively monitor individual and department level bandwidth usage, surfing and IM/chat time.

Metron provides input into traditional ONA consulting engagements with information never before available from a plug-and-play network appliance. With MetroneIUs ONA module, in-house management and ONA consultants will have the information needed to follow-up an initial assessment by monitoring communication flows after the engagement ends. Metron ONA gives organizations the information needed to reduce the risk of communication breakdowns and tune organizational processes toward greater efficiencies and competitive advantage.

"Metron is the only network appliance that creates executive-level information on the inner workings of an organization eI| real-time views of surfing, chatting, and ONA," says eTelemetry CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey. , Alan Schunemann, adding, "MetroneIUs ONA capability is a critical step in eTelemetryeIUs vision of turning network traffic into business intelligence."

Other features in Metron v1.1 include alerts when employees establish secure sessions with outside computers. A secure session, such as a Remote Desktop connection or an encrypted tunnel, can be used to transmit proprietary information.

Additionally, Metron v1.1 includes an optional Lawful Intercept module that has the capability to capture all of an individualeIUs network traffic. Under the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) is a United States wiretapping law passed in 1994 (Pub. L. No. 103-414, 108 Stat. 4279). In its own words, the purpose of CALEA is:

A subpoena ad testificandum [Lat.  requires an organization operating a public or pseudo-public network to collect network communications generated by a specific individual eI| e.g., web surfing Refers to jumping from page to page on the Web. Leveraging its proprietary (and award-winning) people-to-the-IT infrastructure mapping capability, Metron v1.1 includes the ability to capture the network communication of a named individual. This enables organizations that face CALEA requests to immediately comply with the court order.

MetroneIUs existing capabilities include bandwidth usageand surfing/chatting time reports. These reports can be run by person, department, building or other logical grouping for the week, the month or any period of time specified. It enables CIOs to charge bandwidth costs back to the organizational departments who are using it.
