(OLED (Organic Light Emitting Device, Organic Light Emitting Diode) A thin film light-emitting technology that is expected to compete with LCD and plasma TVs as well as LCD monitors and readouts. ) microdisplays, today announced the first four product offerings of its breakthrough OLED-XL(TM) microdisplay portfolio. eMagin's proprietary OLED-XL displays provide a new level of high performance imaging, with up to 410,000 hours luminance The amount of brightness, measured in lumens, that is given off by a pixel or area on a screen. For example, dark red and bright red would have the same chrominance, but a different luminance.  life, the widest temperature range, and the lowest power requirement of any commercially available SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. See PC display modes.  resolution microdisplay system. Combined with magnifying optics, OLED-XL displays create large, high resolution virtual images that are extremely compact and portable for use in personal display systems for applications ranging from PC gaming, portable media players such as iPods, and wireless Internet appliances Also called "information appliance," "smart appliance," and "Web appliance," it is a device specialized for accessing the Web and/or e-mail. Designed for ease of use, it plugs into a telephone jack or LAN connection for Internet hookup.  to thermal imaging, situational awareness Situation awareness or situational awareness [1] (SA) is the mental representation and understanding of objects, events, people, system states, interactions, environmental conditions, and other situation-specific factors affecting human performance in , and training and simulation, as well as other emerging consumer, industrial, and military near-eye display applications.

OLED-XL displays are built on eMagin's original active matrix SVGA-3D and SVGA+ integrated circuits Integrated circuits

, using the same electronic interfaces to facilitate drop-in capability for OEMs. Incorporation of a unique merger of advanced OLED materials with eMagin's new top-emitting stacked Stacked is an American television sitcom that premiered on Fox on April 13, 2005. On May 18, 2006, Stacked was cancelled, leaving five episodes unaired in the United States. The last episode aired on January 11, 2006.  device structures, built using proprietary processes, yield significant improvements in lifetime and luminance for the new class of displays.

The new OLED-XL devices typically have 6-10 times longer luminance half life and exhibit 3-5 times the efficiency, depending on the specific OLED-XL product and operating parameters. This large efficiency increase permits OLED-XL displays to be capable of much higher luminance without any added power consumption. Typical power consumption of a full color SVGA+ or SVGA 3D OLED-XL display running 60 Hz movie-like video at 60 cd/m2 is less than 300 mW. No heaters or special modes are required to achieve high quality, instant-on video performance at temperatures between -67 degrees F (-55 degrees C) and +185 degrees F (+85 degrees C).

"OLED-XL technology is a very important advance for OLED devices. Less power is required to achieve a chosen brightness, and OLED-XL displays offer up to an order of magnitude A change in quantity or volume as measured by the decimal point. For example, from tens to hundreds is one order of magnitude. Tens to thousands is two orders of magnitude; tens to millions is three orders of magnitude, etc.  longer luminance half-life and significantly higher OLED efficiency over our already high-performing OLED displays," said Susan Jones, eMagin's chief marketing officer. "Our breakthrough OLED-XL displays will open up more virtual imaging applications that require higher luminance and longer luminance half-life, such as see-through imaging applications. These displays will also be useful to customers requiring the longest battery life possible for viewing high performance, high resolution images. These enhancements show our commitment to continual improvement Continual Improvement (also called incremental improvement or staircase improvement) is a process or productivity improvement tool intended to have a stable and consistent growth and improvement of all the segments of a process or processes.  of products to meet our customers' needs, and raise a new standard for near-eye displays for a wide range of mobile imaging applications."

SVGA+ OLED-XL displays (852x3x600 pixels See pixel. ) are available in full color, white monochrome Also called "mono." Refers to display screens that use one foreground and one background color; for example, black on white, white on black or green on black. The first terminals connected to mainframes and minicomputers were monochrome, and monochrome screens were widely used on early , and green monochrome. SVGA-3D OLED-XL displays (800x3x600 pixels) are available in full-color. eMagin's original OLED displays remain available in the same array of colors not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.
