SPRING VON 2001-dynamicsoft Inc., a leading provider of carrier-class communications infrastructure solutions for Internet protocol (IP)-based wireline and wireless networks, and Aravox Technologies, Inc., the first company to create a voice over IP (VoIP) firewall to enable secure, real-time communication on converged networks, are demonstrating the industry's most comprehensive and effective SIP (session initiation protocol)-based security solution at the Spring VON Show. The two companies are showcasing their solution on the Pulver Open Test Network (OTN), which is designed to illustrate interoperability among different vendors' VoIP systems.

The dynamicsoft/Aravox setup demonstrates how carriers, CLECs and service providers can protect their IP networks from hacker attacks and other service disruptions without sacrificing voice quality. The companies showed how calls from a SIP phone were not allowed across the OTN until first being authenticated by the Aravox 3100 media firewall working in concert with a dynamicsoft SIP Proxy Server and dynamicsoft SIP Firewall Control Proxy.

The dynamicsoft SIP Firewall Control Proxy is a specialized SIP proxy server designed to work with Aravox's firewall - providing the industry's first software control of a firewall. Once a call is authenticated, the firewall control proxy opens "pinholes" in the Aravox firewall for the voice media stream to flow be connected between the endpoints. In addition, the firewall control proxy collaborates with the firewall to dynamically assign public IP addresses and port numbers to ensure a consistent media path through the network.

Aravox's 3100 firewall enables secure, real-time security solutions specifically designed for real-time applications such as VoIP. An Aravox system - designed as a firewall that supports multiple streaming media protocols - placed at the edge of the network protects the signaling and media ports from service disruptions that can cripple a service provider's system. Many

companies currently route their VoIP applications around standard firewalls due to latency issues. Aravox eliminates these latency problems and, combined with the dynamicsoft proxy servers that open and close media ports on a per-call basis, addresses the security aspect of converged networks, so carriers can deploy services in a secure environment.

Level 3 Communications is collaborating with dynamicsoft and Aravox to implement the new security solution into its enhanced softswitch-based voice service, which enables PSTN-quality voice communications using IP phones or telephony-enabled PCs.
