THE fourth Gateshead International Jazz Festival Noun 1. jazz festival - a festival that features performances by jazz artists
festival, fete - an organized series of acts and performances (usually in one place); "a drama festival"
 celebrates the past, present and future of jazz, with a fresh look at tradition - celebrating the creativity of world class artists such as Cleo Laine Dame Cleo Laine DBE, (born Clementina Dinah Campbell on October 28 1927 in Southall, Middlesex, England) is a jazz singer and an actor, noted for her scat singing.

She is the only female performer to have received Grammy nominations in the jazz, popular and classical music
 and John Dankworth Sir John Phillip William Dankworth, CBE (born 20 September, 1927), often known as Johnny Dankworth, is an English jazz composer, saxophonist and clarinetist. Born in Woodford, Essex he grew up in the suburb of Highams Park and attended Sir George Monoux Grammar School in , a rare appearance from the great Gilberto Gil and quintessential jazz guitarist Jazz guitarists are guitar players who play jazz music using an approach to playing chords, melodies, and improvised solo lines which is called jazz guitar playing. The guitar has a long history in jazz music, both as an ensemble instrument performing chordal accompaniment, and as  John Scofield.

Plus, a late night set in collaboration with the legendary label Blue Note will feature the label's hottest new signing Robert Glasper.

This year's programme includes a number of fantastic international artists, including a Brazilian theme on Saturday 29th, headlined by iconic singer/songwriter Gilberto Gil and followed by a late night Concourse set featuring Monica Vasconcelos and DJ Patrick Forge; up-and-coming bands Acoustic Ladyland and Fulborn Teversham (both feature Seb Rochford from Polar Bear), Gwilym Simcock, Neil Cowley, Fraud, Tim Garland and Finn Peters and the international award-winning Empirical.

As the Northern Sinfonia is playing for the first time at the jazz festival, Culture Club members are being offered two tickets for the price of one on Sunday, March 30, at 2pm.
