blaxxun interactive Shows Ground-Breaking Java Solution for Internet 3D.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 1999--

50 KB Java applet A Java program that is downloaded from the server and run from the browser. The Java Virtual Machine built into the browser is interpreting the instructions. Contrast with Java application.  provides impressive 3D capabilities. As a

standard VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) A 3D graphics language used on the Web. After downloading a VRML page, its contents can be viewed, rotated and manipulated. Simulated rooms can be "walked into." The VRML viewer is launched from within the Web browser. 97 with in-built

extensibility, blaxxun3D helps to get 3D into the mainstream

for e-commerce, entertainment, and web animation

applications.

blaxxun interactive shows at SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics, www.siggraph.org) The arm of the ACM that specializes in computer graphics and interactive techniques. Providing publications, workshops and conferences, it has served technicians and researchers as well as the artist and business community  a ground-breaking implementation of its upcoming blaxxun3D technology. blaxxun3D is implemented in native Java and is under 50 KB in size. Target applications are E-Commerce (product visualizations), entertainment (e.g., animated characters and avatar chat), as well as web animations.

The underlying format for blaxxun3D is a compliant subset of ISO standard VRML97. That means that existing authoring tools, content, and developer skills can be immediately applied to blaxxun3D. There is no need to learn yet another proprietary format or wait for respective authoring tools. blaxxun3D has an in-built programming interface, which enables developers to integrate the applet tightly with their web pages and to add more functionality as needed as needed prn. See prn order. .

As all-time supporter of open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced , blaxxun participates with its blaxxun3D work in the current X3D X3D Next Generation Three Dimensional

activities of the Web3D Consortium The Web3D Consortium is a not-for-profit, member-funded industry consortium whose purpose is to define and develop the X3D royalty-free open standards file format and runtime architecture to represent and communicate 3D scenes. . X3D has the objective to define a way in which the powerful VRML specification can be divided into so-called profiles. The smallest profile is the X3D core, with larger profiles including the whole VRML97 specification and also extensions. blaxxun3D is a proof-of-concept implementation of an X3D core, showing that a compelling subset of VRML97 can be implemented by a very small Java applet. blaxxun will continue to work in the X3D project to ensure that its products are fully compliant with the standards framework.

"blaxxun is one of the strongest supporters of the Web3D Consortium, VRML and the X3D project, as illustrated by their recent contribution of its browser source to the Consortium's Community Source program," said Neil Trevett Neil Trevett is currently Vice President of Embedded Content at NVIDIA. He is responsible for enabling and encouraging compelling applications on non-PC platforms, including cell phones and automobiles. Prior to joining NVIDIA, Mr. , vice president of 3Dlabs and president of the Web3D Consortium. "X3D is defining how VRML will evolve for the next generation web and the X3D specification will be significantly strengthened through innovative proof-of-concept implementations such as blaxxun3D."

"With blaxxun3D we can now offer the whole set of technologies that are required to integrate 3D in all kinds of applications" states Franz Buchenberger, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of blaxxun. "Our customers can offer various applications without requiring a plugin, but also can make highest quality 3D content available through an extensible architecture. This is a major breakthrough for 3D on the Web."

Commercial availability of blaxxun3D is expected for September 1999.

blaxxun interactive

blaxxun interactive, is the global leader in products and solutions for multimedia communication on the Internet and intranets. Its technology platform ties multimedia with rich communication features allowing the building of visually striking communities and venues where users interact and network with each other in 2D and 3D. Applications are tailored to commerce, to collaboration with online education/training forums and virtual offices, and to communities like the award winning Cybertown (http://www.cybertown.com).

Web3D Consortium

The Web3D Consortium (formerly the VRML Consortium) is a non-profit organization with a mandate to develop and promote open standards to enable 3D Web and broadcast applications. The Consortium successfully gained approval for VRML 97 as International Standard ISO/IEC ISO/IEC International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ITU-T M 3000)  14772 in December 1997 and is currently driving the X3D project to create the next evolution of the VRML standard.

The Consortium is comprised of over 50 leading organizations including charter members such as 3Dlabs, blaxxun interactive, Cybelius Software, MathEngine, Panasonic/Matsushita, Microsoft, Sony and Superscape. More information on VRML, the Consortium's ongoing X3D and VRML standards activities and Consortium membership is available at http://www.vrml.org or http://www.web3d.org.
