The SMART TRANSFER service lets customers transfer money internationally to friends or family using the PAYZONE network of payment terminals, at retailers and convenience stores UK-wide.

alphyra claims its new service is cheaper, faster, and more secure than existing Money Transfer methods, and is more convenient because of the PAYZONE network's long opening hours and UK-wide accessibility.

The service will be available through selected outlets initially across the UK, and will offer consumers competitive transfer rates, with savings of over 60% compared with other services such as Western Union and MoneyGram.

A recent Government report* stated that in the 12 months to November 2005, over two million people in the UK sent GBP 2.7 billion to families and communities in the developing world. With further growth expected in this sector, the Government is encouraging new money transfer services, in order to deliver increased choice and improved service and competitive pricing to the consumer.

Customers can register for the service at www.mysmarttransfer.com or at their nearest PAYZONE outlet with the SMART TRANSFER service. A SMART TRANSFER loading card and a VISA Plus ATM card are then issued by post for the user and intended recipient.

The customer then visits a SMART TRANSFER outlet, swipes the loading card through the PAYZONE terminal and gives the cash to be transferred to the agent. The SMART TRANSFER service makes the funds instantly available to the recipient using the matching VISA Plus ATM card. Funds can be withdrawn using any of the 1.3M VISA-branded ATMs worldwide.
