ZyXEL Launches New VDSL2 Products Delivering Optimum Price/Performance for High Bandwidth Deployments.

The VES-1616F-34 is a mini VDSL2 DSLAM and the VLC1224G-41 is a VDSL2 line card that works with ZyXEL's existing chassis-based IES-5000 and IES-5005 DSLAMs. Both products offer the next generation of VDSL technology, which allows service providers to add high bandwidth IPTV services with increased coverage to a larger customer base.

ZyXEL's new VDSL2 product line is targeted to Telcos and ISPs and is ideally suited to address the growing need to offer value-added services including IPTV, video-on-demand (VOD) or other high bandwidth services that are not available with ADSL speeds. Understanding that it is no longer enough to offer broadband Internet, Telcos worldwide are evolving their networks to offer triple play services to attract new customers while retaining existing ones. ZyXEL's VES-1616F-34 is a 16-port 6-band VDSL switch based on Discrete Multi Tone (DMT) modulation and the latest Ethernet technologies and supports two gigabit Ethernet Copper and two Gigabit Fiber interfaces for uplink and daisy chain. It multiplexes data traffic into two 10/100/1000 Base-T uplinks/downlinks that connect to any third-party Ethernet switch, WAN or VDSL switch cascade. The built-in POTS/ISDN splitter sends voice traffic to the publicly switched telephone network. The VES-1616F-34 supports the fastest speeds in the industry: 100Mbps/100Mbps and VDSL2 speeds of 100Mbps/45Mbps bandwidth in a 225 meter loop and is aimed toward those that need a high-speed, robust and reliable network that offers high bandwidth services like multiple HDTV and video on demand. The VES-1616F-34 works seamlessly with Fiber to the Curb (FTTC) and Fiber to the Neighborhood (FTTN) architectures using copper wire to bring high bandwidth to subscribers. It has a temperature hardened design which makes it ideal for remote deployments for the residential FTTC/FTTN market as well as those providing Metro Ethernet projects for office buildings as an upgrade to multiple T1/E1 services.

ZyXEL's VLC1124G is a 24 port VDSL2 line card for those who are already using a ZyXEL DSLAM, either the IES-5000 or the IES-5005. The VLC1124G is a DMT-based five band VDSL2 line supporting up to 100 Mbps downstream and 45Mbps upstream bandwidth. This line card is capable of providing 35Mbps downstream and 8Mbps upstream for up to 3,500 feet and can further extend the DSL connection to 12,000 feet. With these line cards, the IES-5000 can support up to 192 VDSL2 subscribers in the central office for higher bandwidth demand. The IES-5005, with line cards, can support up to 96 VDSL2 subscribers in the street curb or cabinet for FTTx extension for IPTV deployment. Similar to other line cards supported by the IES-5000 and IES-5005, the VLC12224G can be managed via CLI, Web-based EMS, Telnet and NetAtlas, ZyXEL's SNMP-based element management system. In addition to the ADSL2/2+ and G.shdsl line card support, by adding VLC1224G to the IES-5000 and IES-5005, Telcos are given a competitive edge by being able to offer multiple services in a single platform.

--DMT Technology: Both support Discrete Multi-Tone technology as the world wide VDSL line-coding standard. This dynamically adapts bit rate to the conditions of the local loops and offers excellent performance even over noisy lines.

--Rate Limiting: Rate limiting on the subscriber ports allows for service in increments of 64Kbps, allowing service providers to offer tiered services.

--Port Trunking: Port trunking provides higher availability and supports IEEE 802.3ad with load distribution control and failover recovery.

--VLAN: VLAN feature offers the benefits of both security and performance. It is used to isolate traffic between different users in order to provide better security.

--Access Control: Access control enhances network security with 802.1x port-based security, MAC Filter, Limited MAC Count and an IGMP profile filter.

Other benefits of these products include multicast applications such as IGMP snooping, proxy and Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR). IGMP snooping and proxy optimizes performance for bandwidth-consuming applications such as broadcast video while MVR significantly reduces video stream requests.
