ZyXEL Announces New High-Powered, Secure Wi-Fi Wireless Ethernet Adapter at GLOBALCOMM; New Adapter Ideal for Municipal Agencies and WISPs; Latest Addition to ZyXEL CPE Family.

CHICAGO -- ZyXEL Communications Inc., a leading provider of secure broadband networking and Internet connectivity and routing products, today announced the addition of their latest Wi-Fi wireless Ethernet adapter, the G-470. The new adapter, which allows any Ethernet-enabled device to be connected to a wireless network, features high output power, an external signal strength indicator, Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and network security.

Designed to meet the rigorous requirements of Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and municipal agencies for Municipal Wi-Fi installations, the new adapter is one of the first Wi-Fi adapters to support standard PoE for flexible deployment and the 802.1x supplicant for secure service provisioning.

Available to service providers and value-added resellers, the new adapter's high output power allows the user's signal to reach outdoor mounted access points that become difficult to access with a weaker signal due to trees, plants and buildings that may interfere. The inclusion of the 802.1x supplicant which supports PEAP, TLS and TTLS, allows the service provider to offer greater network security while ensuring that only paying customers are able to access the network. The adapter also supports the PoE standard, allowing power to be provided to the adapter using the same cable that the network data travels over. This function allows the device to be mounted up to 300 feet away from a power outlet, giving greater flexibility for placement. With the help of its built-in LED that blinks to indicate signal strength, a user is able to mount the adapter in a place where it receives the strongest signal. Signal strength can also be increased by replacing the standard antenna with a higher gain or directional antenna. In addition, service providers are able to access the adapter remotely, which allows them to provide customers with better support, remote configuration and troubleshooting.

By offering high output power, PoE support and the 802.1x supplicant, ZyXEL uses their network solutions experience to deliver what service providers need to gain an edge over the competition. These features allow ZyXEL to reach not only service providers, but also a growing number of municipal agencies at the city and county level that are sponsoring or endorsing the operation of wireless networks for public service agencies and to provide either free or affordable Internet access to their residents.

The hospitality industry will also benefit from the G-470, now hotel guests can access a secure wireless environment without having to reconfigure their network settings. Hotels also have the option to offer a "driverless alternative" for guests who either don't have Wi-Fi on their laptop, or are unable to figure out how to connect to the wireless network.
