Zine thing.

FOCUS

Is this from some of the same cats responsible for Lowcard? All photos and no BS, covering mostly Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern . There's some great stuff in there but I have to point out one thing that I could not let slide. Readers of Thrasher thrasher: see mimic thrush.
thrasher

Any of 17 species (family Mimidae) of New World songbirds that have a downcurved bill and are noted for noisily foraging on the ground in dense thickets and for loud, varied songs.
magazine, if you don't already know, there is no such thing as a frontside indy air. It's either a frontside air, or an indy air (which is grabbing like a frontside air but going backside). It may be confusing because most tricks have backside and frontside components (boardslide, disaster, etc), but airs did not (slob, lien, and madonna are three other frontside-turning airs, and mute, indy and body jar are backside turning airs) until the advent of the stalefish or the tail grab (frontside and backside). Ollies, of course, have always been frontside or backside, but they are not grabbed. I am not 100-percent about this, and if anyone wants to dispute it write to me with proof and I will send you something good, or maybe something stupid. I need proof, remember. I bet some smartass is going to go out and start a 'zine called "Frontside Indy," Anyway, Focus is cool, send a couple bucks: 62 Bluxome, San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , CA 94107

STORY OF MY SCAB A pejorative term used colloquially in reference to a nonunion worker who takes the place of a union employee on strike or who works for wages and other conditions that are inferior to those guaranteed to a union member by virtue of the union contract. , #8

drawings collected into a 'zinc, some seemingly random/drawn from sketchbook pages, others more direct, such as his tribute to Divine, his work with a musical theme, and the pointedly asked, "What's so trippy, hippie?" There's some work with a skateboarding theme as well. Couple dollars: 24 Virginia Ave, San Francisco, CA 94110

OURS FOR TAKING, #3

This is the third installment of this North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (E), South Carolina and Georgia (S), Tennessee (W), and Virginia (N). Facts and Figures

'zine, and another fine issue. It's got an interview with a guy named Bob Suren, an old local skater/punk, and it's got a rant by him as well on music ("Only Ugly Bands Rock," "Even Crappy crap·py

2. Miserable; poorly.

3. Mean; contemptible.

There's a bizarre ode to the Bones Brigade (on how the Bones Brigade personified some skate brotherhood--huh?) and a skate gossip section (c'mon man, who cares?). Still, solid action. POOR AND FORGOTTEN, #19

Matt's back in solitary confinement--no shit--and so his 'zinc has gone back to a one-page folded out thing. Written from prison in Massachusetts, this P&F has the obligatory word search, write-ups of the bands Solitary Neglect and Agathocles, a great comic, some random stuff, and an interview with Rob of Lowcard 'fine. To get a copy send a couple stamps or a 'zine in trade to: Matt Johnson, PO Box 59, Linwood, MA 01583

88 SHADES OF GREY, #6

Another issue of darkness and brooding, coffee and cigarettes, 88 SoG is a collection of found stuff: photos and some writing (a little poetry and some pining for girls). It's well put together and worth a peek or two. No permanent address for this one, you'll have to via the Interweb: beastmangoat@hotmail.com. That's right: Beast! Man! Goat!

NOTHING 'ZINE, #3

Reneging (or perhaps postponing) on his promise to deliver more skate coverage in the zinc, former Pipeline local Marcus still delivers a great music rag. This one's got stuff on the Hunns, Weirdos, Greg Ginn of Black Flag, the Smut Peddlers, the Subhumans The Subhumans is the name of two prominent punk rock bands:
  1. The Subhumans (U.K. band), the UK band featuring singer Dick Lucas
  2. The Subhumans (Canadian band), the band from Vancouver, Canada, featuring singer Wimpy Roy and bass player Gerry Hannah.
, and some other stuff including record reviews. Stuff inside is pretty brief but to the point. If you like any of the bands, it's worth a read. Send a buck or two to: 8560 Vineyard #507, Rancho Cucamunga, CA 91730. And don't forget to vote!

FOR FUN 'ZINE #3

I got a couple of prior issues to this one all in the package, and all I gotta say is: "only in Colorado." Only in Colorado (or, perhaps Oregon) is the inside cover ad a bong bong 1
