Zine thing.

Found, #2

Awright, so I've been hearing about this one for a while, and I finally got my hands on an issue. Dunno if it's a recent one or kinda old, but I get the idea that they are mostly the same: People send in random bits of found stuff that is generally on the tweaky or funny side, such as love notes between junior high kids, bizarre photos, notes left on cars, etc. It's pretty fun, worth a chuckle or two, but there's not much to it; this would make good bathroom reading material. Five bucks: 3455 Charing Cross Road Charing Cross Road is a London street which runs north from Trafalgar Square to St Giles' Circus (the intersection with Oxford Street) and then becomes Tottenham Court Road. It is so called because it leads from Charing Cross. , Ann Arbor Ann Arbor, city (1990 pop. 109,592), seat of Washtenaw co., S Mich., on the Huron River; inc. 1851. It is a research and educational center, with a large number of government and industrial research and development firms, many in high-technology fields such as , MI 48108-1911

SELF EDUCATED, #3

Awright, awright, I am gonna be nice. This one is done on college rule paper before being photocopied, so you can see the lines that make sure the handwritten hand·write

, is this Mr Rogers' neighborhood or what? That being said, my guess is the kid doing this is a bit on the young side and therefore it's pretty kick ass (dude, if you are over 16 I would hide the fact and perhaps consider retiring from the whole undertaking). This could develop into something killer. Tip # 375: Remember, when writing your 'zine, you're writing for yourself and your friends, but if you want to appeal to a wider audience you've gotta consider that too. Unfortunately this one has no address.

SNAKEPIT BOOK

Ben Snakepit has been writing a three-panel autobiographical comic once a day for years, and this is the first major collection. On the surface, it seems pretty shallow: you can't really say much in three panels, or so it seems, and the drawing is good but not eye-popping. But it's the act of repetitiously reading these and following the plot (a lot of drinking and bonging, playing and listening to music, watching TV, working, juggling romance) that one becomes engrossed en·gross

, and that's when the three panel format allows for so much more to be said. Gorsky Press Gorsky Press is an independent small press publishing company based in Los Angeles. SWELLBOW, #9

A new Swellbow is always a pleaser. From the land of frontside indys and the most "surfers" per capita [Latin, By the heads or polls.] A term used in the Descent and Distribution of the estate of one who dies without a will. It means to share and share alike according to the number of individuals.  of any landlocked landlocked adj. referring to a parcel of real property which has no access or egress (entry or exit) to a public street and cannot be reached except by crossing another's property.  state, Swellbow is like a poke in the eye. This one's full of random stuff (Hangover prevention! A great short story! Lots of good photos!), a Carbondale review (we'll see how the Kings of the Road rip that one), and plenty more. I wasn't gonna review this one because Strauss is on the cover, and the shitbag stole my place to crash in Seattle after glomming on to our action, but the mag is too good to let petty shit get in the way. Hey, don't sweat the petty stuff--pet the sweaty stuff! Send a couple bucks to: 17423 E Chenango Dr, Aurora, CO 80015

2ND AVENUE 'ZINE, #4

Colin comes through with the goods--damn, that kid seems to have a head on his shoulders. He hangs out with some of the pros you've heard of and makes some keen observations, reviews the utterly despicable "Danny Boy" ramp, interviews Tony Trujillo Tony Trujillo (born August 23, 1982 in Santa Rosa, California) is an American skateboarder. He is noted for his anti-corporate attitude and love for rock and roll, as well as his aggressive skating style. , and covers the Emerica barge on NYC NYC

HAMBURGER EYES

This is the quintessential photo 'zine: a lot of random black and white stuff held together by whatever you can imagine is holding it together (Youth? Creativity? The streets? Idealism? Decay? Titillation?). They wander into more themed presentations ("Mean Streets," "Holla Blood Block") as well. Awesome collections that will sit in your shitter and be enjoyed by generations to come. SICK AND TIRED FUNNIES, #3

These are kill cartoons by a guy named Charlie who is obviously fed up with the status quo [Latin, The existing state of things at any given date.] Status quo ante bellum means the state of things before the war. The status quo to be preserved by a preliminary injunction is the last actual, peaceable, uncontested status which preceded the pending controversy. , and determined to draw his way out. The illustration quality is top notch (this is probably a springboard if he wants it), and so is the writing. He skewers current politics, general American ignorance, cops, the top five bad ideas for tattoos, live-at-home stoners, and so many more. Shit's hilarious and easily worth the $3 cover charge: PO Box 82, Waretown, NJ 08758
