Zine thing.

LOW CARD, #1

On the scrappy end of the scale comes Low Card. Hastily thrown together with a bunch of poorly photocopied photos and handwritten hand·write

To write by hand.

[Back-formation from handwritten.]

scrawl, it's junky but kind of appealing. My guess is the next one (if it ever happens) will turn it up a notch because we need shit like this out there. Definitely random and sketchy. Send something to: 1647 McAllister St #7, San Francisco, CA 94115

SKATEWORKS, #7

Arising from the ashes of Tim Brauch and Jai Tarju's Motivation zine, this one is through the shop Skateworks but isn't what you'd call a catalogue by any means. It's a bunch of great skate flicks interspersed with random outer space/Star Wars pictures and words. Subjects include Hsu, Strubing, Pete the Ox, and others. Pick one up at the counter of the shop or call them to order one.

PAYING IN PAIN Paying In Pain is a Fresno, California-based DIY/Underground skateboard magazine. It was started in San Francisco, California in 1998 by Joey Young. Moved to Visalia, California in 2000 and then to Fresno in 2004. , #12

This one's killer. Out of Visalia, PIP takes the underdog approach ("Hijack the Demo"). It's packed full of stuff, on cheap paper with mostly good photos. This one's got video reviews, tons of skate flicks, a Hawaii report (and, I gotta call 'em on this one, they call a slob air a mute--I will call out all mislabeled mis·la·bel
tr.v. mis·la·beled also mis·la·belled, mis·la·bel·ing also mis·la·bel·ling, mis·la·bels also mis·la·bels
To label inaccurately.

tricks. Be forewarned), an interview with Jub, 510 demo, "Over It," "Halfpipes of War" and a DRI See Digital Research.  interview. Like I said, it's thick and a good read; well worthy. Send $2 to: PO Box 4128, Visalia, CA 93278

PIGEONHOLD, #5

Glossy paper and attention to detail make this one a winner. Lots of good street coverage, a contest, and a lot of music stuff (Bad Religion interview, Mike Watt, Shiner shiner: see minnow.
