ZiLOG, Inc. (OTCBB OTCBB

:ZILG), the creator of the Z80 microprocessor and a leading innovator of integrated 8-bit microcontroller solutions, announced today that it will highlight the capabilities of its eZ80Acclaim!(TM) and Z8 Encore!(R) microcontroller families at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC See escape character and escape key. See also ESC/P.

) in Boston, Mass. The demos will emphasize the ways in which the devices can be leveraged to easily create powerful vertical market applications. The show runs September 15-18 at the Hynes Convention Center.

ZiLOG is also offering attendees two free training seminars during the conference program. The daylong seminars offer hands-on development tools training for the Z8 Encore! and eZ80Acclaim! families of microcontrollers. The classes will be held in Classroom #202 in the Hynes Convention Center.

The Z8 Encore! family allows for the quick development of new, highly differentiated designs, as well as the reduction of total system cost and enhancement of performance. In addition, the eZ80Acclaim! family is aimed at higher-performance applications previously the domain of 16-bit devices and features an optimized, power-efficient architecture.

One highlight of the ZiLOG booth will be a demonstration of a Pong Robot automatic ping-pong application. The system, which incorporates uses the IrDA, motor control and network management capabilities of both the eZ80Acclaim! and Z8 Encore!, offers a real-world example of how the devices can enable consumer applications.

"This application demonstrates how readily ZiLOG's two most significant product families (Z8 Encore! and eZ80Acclaim!) can work together to create sophisticated applications," said Mike Burger, president of ZiLOG.

The system allows a single player to compete against an intelligent robot, while automatically tracking the game score and remaining game time. A graphics display controlled by the eZ80Acclaim! F91 Flash microcontroller shows additional information such as the player's name and time left remaining in the game on a 320x240 pixel graphics display.

Data is transmitted wirelessly from the control system to the board via a 900MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  broad-spectrum wireless data modem. The control system, which incorporates ZiLOG's F64 Z8 Encore! Flash microcontroller, gathers information (such as the player name) and desired ball speed from a handheld Palm PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM).  and transmits it to the display board and starts the game timer.

ZiLOG is showing a variety of other vertical market applications that incorporate ZiLOG's Z8 Encore! and eZ80Acclaim! products including: Point of Sale (POS (1) See point of sale and packet over SONET.
