New family of wireless spread spectrum controllers delivers

ZiLOG Inc. today announced its latest innovation for wireless spread spectrum communication applications -- the Wave(TM) chip family of wireless spread spectrum voice and data controllers based on ZiLOG's Z87L02 device.

The latest addition to ZiLOG's family of "smart" microcontrollers -- built around a dual processor core -- offers a legitimate single-chip baseband solution for engineers designing the next generation of communication devices.

"ZiLOG is the only IC manufacturer offering devices with this level of capability to wireless device manufacturers. We specifically designed this family of chips to provide a single-chip DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  solution to engineers creating the latest in voice and data communication. By providing chip technology that decreases design cost and pushes the design performance envelope, ZiLOG helps them to provide their customers with the best possible product. With the Flash-based version of the Wave chip, customers can introduce complex products to market in record time," said Dimitri Desmons, Director of ZiLOG's Wireless Business Line.

Now available, the Wave chip family is a flexible solution optimized for low-cost, low-speed voice and data transmission. The devices are ideal for telemetry telemetry

Easily switchable between 32kbps voice and data in half- or full-duplex communication, the family supports adaptive frequency hopping at rates up to 250 hops per second.

Flexible network configuration parameters enable a variety of networks such as point-to-point, multipoint peer-to-peer, and star configuration where a single master can control a large number of terminals. Robust in high interference environments, the Z87L02 offers secure communication in applications such as remote facility and environmental control, and a range of up to five miles with the appropriate RF transceiver.

The Wave chip also supports a range of frequencies, including the 902 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. , 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz ISM bands.

The Wave chip family of wireless spread spectrum voice and data controllers is priced from $5.95 in quantities of 50,000 units. To purchase product, contact ZiLOG's Worldwide Customer Support Center at csupport@zilog.com or 1-877-945-6427.
