THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ARM AND ZI

Zi Corporation has granted ARM a worldwide, royalty-bearing license to market, distribute and sub-license Zi Input Technology. ARM and Zi Corporation intend to cooperate in marketing, development and support for use of the Zi Input Technology for custom application integration for "Chinese Versions" of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  products including information appliances.

The agreement between ARM and Zi Corporation is intended to render the Zi Input Technology available to ARM licensees, potential licensees and their OEM customers. Zi 8 Input is a stroke-based, intuitive Chinese character input system that follows the same stroke order that people learn in school to write Chinese characters. The Zi Input technology can provide an OEM with a consistent Chinese language user interface which is scaleable for a wide range of products. With this agreement Zi Corporation has gained access to ARM's marketing and distribution network.

ARM has licensed its intellectual property to various companies which has resulted in its technology appearing in a diverse range of products and market segments. Some devices containing the ARM RISC processor, to name a few, include:

- Apple Newton (computer) Apple Newton - A Personal Digital Assistant produced by Apple Computer. The Newton provides a clever, user-friendly interface and relies solely on pen-based input.  PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks.
