Highlights from the September 14 Featured Expert column by Gregory Spear include:

It appears fast money is exiting the energy patch and looking for plays in the chips {Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM)} and Internet stocks {Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) & Netease (NASDAQ:NTES)}. Had the overall market climate been better, it appears NTES would have had another spectacular day.

Plan B

Spear and his team have recently closed out a profitable swing trade in Goldcorp (NYSE:GG) and the chart of the yellow metal is in a bullish configuration. Moreover, the unhedged gold index (HUI) has been in a beautiful 2- year consolidation pattern. If the equity markets fail here (remember, one of Spear and his team's more esoteric timing models has predicted an important top on or about September 19th) and we get a triple top rather than a breakout, it is likely to be as a result of inflation fears. That would be good for gold stocks. Indeed, Spear and his team have seen some spectacular short-term momentum in several Consensus gold plays over the past few weeks.

For now, the semiconductors and select technology plays seem to be in favor. Should that change, Spear and his team will keep a close eye on the precious metals Precious Metals

Notes:
Investing in precious metals can be done either by purchasing the physical asset, or by purchasing futures contracts for the particular metal.
. In the past year or so, hedge funds hedge fund, in finance, a highly speculative, largely unregulated investment device. Originating in the 1950s, the funds "hedge" by offsetting "short" positions (borrowing a security and then selling it at a higher price before repaying the lender) against "long"  have become highly sector-focused and Spear and his team expect that pattern to continue. There will always be a bull market somewhere.
