Seattle Genetics, Inc. (NASDAQ:SGEN) discovers and develops monoclonal antibody-based drugs to treat cancer and other human diseases. The Company's product candidates encompass three technologies: genetically engineered monoclonal antibodies, monoclonal antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and antibody-directed enzyme prodrug therapy (ADEPT). Investor interest in SGEN has resumed after a better-than-expected third quarter earnings report. The company reported revenues for the third quarter of $1.5 million, compared with $404,000 in the third quarter of 2002, and the consensus of $770,000. Net loss for the quarter totaled 0.17 per share, which was 5 cents better than the consensus. As expected, SGEN is hitting the radars at some of the big houses around town.

ArQule, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARQL) is a recognized leader in small-molecule chemistry, and is pursuing a strategy to become an efficient drug discovery and development company. ArQule provides high quality library design and compound production to pharmaceutical collaborators. After a charge, the company reported profits for the third quarter versus the consensus of a loss of $0.18 per share. On the top-line the company reported revenue of $15,961,000 versus the consensus of $13,000,000. ArQule updated its financial guidance for the year ending December 31, 2003. ArQule now expects revenues to range between $58 and $60 million. This increase from prior guidance of $56 to $58 million primarily reflects achievements at the high end of expectations for Pfizer. With $74 million in cash, raised guidance, the recent Cyclis acquisition, Phase I clinical trials of cancer drug ARQ 501, and a new collaboration with Novartis (NYSE:NVS), Juricic and his team are excited about the prospects for ArQule over the next 6-12 months.

OSI Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:OSIP) is a leading biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of high-quality, next-generation oncology products that both extend and improve the quality-of-life for cancer patients worldwide. The selling pressure in OSIP over the past month or so sure makes investors nervous. In Juricic's opinion, the fundamentals for OSIP have not changed. The recent news that Phase III trials for Tarceva as a first-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancer failed was not at all unexpected. While Juricic's resolve and patience with OSIP is being tested, he still continues to believe in the vision of OSIP and the possibilities of cancer drug Tarceva.
