Despite the fact that we are in a bull market, it is no secret that the market has been struggling. Dan Sullivan and his team remain in the bullish camp. However, in keeping with their posture of the last three months, they continue to advise holding off on additional purchases for the time being. Near term, the bears are in control but, looking further out, history is on the side of the bulls. This is not the time to cut and run.

Despite poor weather that shifted many deliveries into the second quarter, Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) posted net income of $139.3 million, or 84 cents per share, an increase of 31% for the quarter ending Feb. 29. Those numbers compare with the company's earnings of $106.3 million, or 68 cents per share, during the prior year period. Revenue increased 16% to $1.9 billion from $1.6 billion. Thanks to all of this exceptional news, and the fact that demand remains strong both in the long and short terms, Lennar has increased its earning guidance for the year to $5.30 a share from $5.25.

On Feb. 29, 2004, the Apollo Group (NASDAQ:APOL) reported a 50% jump in earnings for its fiscal second quarter, thanks to strong performances at both its Apollo Education Group and its University of Phoenix Online units. The earnings increase was fueled by a 29% growth in total degree enrollment, taking it to 227,847. The Apollo Group also has raised its fiscal 2004 earnings estimate again, this time seeing earnings of $1.77 per share.
